I'm struggling like hell to find anything on my black ancestors but I've been able to trace back to my Scottish side 1642 (Isle of Skye, Scotland) :mjcry:

It's confusing as hell I wish I had the money to get someone to do it for me :mjcry:

If you don't mind me asking is it lack of information that's making it difficult? Or are you just stuck at a certain point?

It's hard on the black side because it's a lack of information. I can't get past my great-great grandmother on my mom's side at all. I would have to see if I can order birth and death certificates but that will eventually start adding up. And as far as my biological dad's side, the same thing. I'm an outside baby so there is no way in hell they would ever tell me anything. I also turned off the monthly subscription because things are tight here too. I'm trying to research without spending much but that's hard. I don't know where else to look besides ancestry.com and I've been on there for a minute :mjcry:

Always been interested in taking the DNA tests. I have about 100 years worth of history passed down from person to person in my family. My cousin took the ancestryDNA test and it confirmed what we already knew. My great grandmother was mixed (black, chinese, and carib indian) and those were all accounted for in the test. I was surprised to find out that we have more indigenous ancestry than asian (my whole life I was told my grandmother was half chinese but my cousin's test showed 15% south american, and 8% east asian). 68% african with roots in Ivory Coast, Benin/Togo, Cameroon/Congo, and Nigeria with trace amounts in a couple other places. She also had 7% european.

@xoxodede on Familysearch.org where exactly did you start off to find your families history? @im_sleep @Donovan Gumby @BlackPearl The Empress do any of you have any tips on where to start as well?
Start with any immediate family members born during or before 1940. Definitely helps to know where they were born too.

Vital records(Birth/Death certificates/etc) are great at filling in gaps when it comes to maiden names, actual birthdays, etc. But just know certain states(like Mississippi) are shytty when it comes to those kind of records while other states(like Texas) are a lot better.
