Ancestry added a new feature called Genetic Communities I found interesting.

Im not surprised about beloging to the South carolina group because of their Gullah/Geechie population as they come from the same area my tribe is found.

The Caribbean thing is a given.

I'm more so interested to see the other regionsz
Do you know how to upload your raw DNA from ancestry.com to DNAland.com to match the closest tribe you're from?

I've been doing a lot of research on the topic. I found a lot of information however I can't really get past a certain family that owned a large portion of my GGMother's side of the family. One of the slave owner's sons actually fathered other ancestors but so far I haven't found anyone directly related to me. However, I did find a book that was written about a man that was also owned by the same man. I order it on Amazon. Hopefully it should be here today or tomorrow. As far as the slave owner, I have been able to trace his family back to England.

i know my tribe, but no i never heard of it. i have used gedmatch before but the results are confusing.
They say it's free and all you have to do is upload your DNA from ancestry to dnaland and it gives you the tribe you're more closely related to. I've been trying to find someone to show me how to do it when my ancestry results come back. I was going to try African ancestry for that but they're too damn expensive.

Being that my parents are from Africa, my closest matches on Ancestry are 4th cousins so the shared relative is pretty much the slave that was captured/sold and brought to the states. I know my background but did the test as I felt it would be interesting to see how many people I am linked with being most people have a complete blank on who their ancestors were pre slavery.

Pretty much everyone who is my match Id put money all have an ancestor who came from my tribe or were of the ethnic group/family.

:wow:

:salute: I hope more continental Africans take these tests. Can definitely help us in the diaspora reestablish connections with the continent.

Due to a bit of scandal there was a whole side of the family I was unable to get information on. Basically, my grandfather was married to another woman when my mother was born. But, I was able to contact a lady that is my first cousin and she was able to provide me with a little bit of information that led me to a vast amount of information. Once she found out who I was she got all fussy but by then I got what I needed to know. However, I have a confirmed DNA match with a first cousin of hers so I know for a fact that we share the same grandfather.

I believe I found a "Black" native relative. She is my great great grandmother on my grandfather's side. She has dark skin, clearly native features with straight hair. I believe her husband could possibly be native too but I'm not sure. In 1896, he acquired 300 acres of land valued at over $2000 then which would be $55K today. I wonder how he was able to acquire the money/ or was granted the land. This really makes me think that they could have possibly owned slaves. My cousin told me that my grandfather owned his own trucking company and he was born in 1916 so I believe there was money in the family.

I was able to find pictures of 3 of my mother's great grandparents. She is so happy she can't wait to hang them up on the wall. :king:

BTW ancestry.com is is completely inaccurate. But is it is useful because of family trees. 23andMe is way better. I took both. The 23andMe MORE accurately reflexes my genetic make up findings (even though there is field wide suppression of Africanoid haplogroups but that is another subject.) The ancestry test gave me completely different results and didn't reflect any of my findings.

I Disagree. Ancestry pretty much aligned it's self with GedMatch and the Nat Geo test I did. It could be because my ancestry is fairly unmixed though.

African 100%
West African 99% (Mende/Akan 76%Lower Niger Valley 22%)
East African 1.5%

This is what I got from DnaLand. Pretty inaccurate, but I assume this is because they do not have much data so they just matched me to who I was most similar to.

:gucci: How are you going to disagree with my results? I traced at least 3 lines back to England.

23andMe showed Irish/English ancestry while Ancestry said I had almost none and said I was Scandinavians. As Scandinavian as I am "Nigerian" :comeon:.

23andMe showed I have Asian Native Ancestry and I have a picture of my great grandma who is clearly native, Black skinned with pin straight hair. Ancestry said I had no native and I was Polynesian. :comeon:

Plus I ran my raw DNA through GEDmatch and the results still show I have Amerindian DNA.

Stay in your simplify DNA lane. :mjlol: The information provided by 23andMe matched will all my historical records while Ancestry did not. :francis:
