If you lived thru that era, it was amazing. I tried to get into the ps5 amd it looks like last gen. Nothing special. There just isn't any competition anymore.

That was a great era, in years to come others will be saying the same thing about this current era
Nowhere to go graphic wise really its why the big push rn is RTX (Real time realistic shading and illumination) and DLSS/FSR (Native 4K is impossible with current hardware and software demands so you gotta fake and wiggle it). Throw UE5's 3D scan shyt on top but the days of that giant leap from like PS1 blocks to smooth hexagons and cylinders with ps2/gc and so on are over.
There definitely is, when movie quality cgi is possible…in movies. Eventually chips and processors will be powerful enough to do that all real time.

shyt just seeing what we came from in the 70's limited graphics to the PS360 era was amazing to see.
Sure but that leap not gonna floor you because it'll be more incremental. We're gonna get like 3 more slightly nicer looking Horizon Zero Dawns before we hit that level and when we do it won't be some big surprise or experience. We'll have walked up to it instead of leaps and bounds.

We're on the blood path now
There was more creativity in the industry back then and enough money to go around to experiment. Nowadays videogames cost way more to create, thus the creativity is stifled as no one wants to talk a loss financially. Or at least that is my theory. Someone else can correct me.

The jump from the 360/PS3 to Xbox One/PS4 was pretty big too. I remember my jaw dropping when I saw that NBA 2K14 reveal trailer.

There was a mini high when shopping for games. Now I just brace for disappointment
I'm sorry OP but as much as I appreciate those times, I loathed:
- Janky ass controls
- God awful camera angles
- Broken platforming
- Badly implemented FPS games
- Disc Read Error
- Please Insert Memory Card

a lot of that is nostalgia
but most of gaming mechanics and story tell ideas crystalized during the Ps3/360 era
and every major game is a a variant of those games to an extent
89-2007 they were developing new styles of games and new genres every console generation.
losing the arcade as place to experiments and the amount of time and money it takes to develop a game adds to this
Arcade experience was so dope as a kid. Definitely something newer kids missed out on. Granted it hasn't totally gone away, but it's no where near what it was.
