I think the fact that having a "main character" die will have a good enough shock value to hold viewers attention for next season thus Robb's death will hit home for most. I think they will inter-cut another scene involving stannis and melisandre with Balon getting pushed off that bridge between the towers at pyke and a shot of Robb getting his head sawed off, and finally a smug Jofferey who does not know fate has him next.

I didn't read the books when I first started watching the show, so Ned's death was insane to me. I was soooo shocked. I made my sister and friends watch the show JUST for the Ned death reaction

nah its already been confirmed by crew members of the show that they cut off grey winds head and put it on robb starks body
