damn, went to public school and this episode was so spot-on in terms of the sheer ruthlessness of peers.

i remember folks getting publicly ROASTED all day, every day for presumed fake shyt, non-stylish gear, etc. watching guys/girls crying in class due to taunting, flipping desks, threatening their bullies, etc. shyt was like iraq in retrospect...

... fast-forward to my undergrad experience at an ivy and seeing wealthy whites in the dining hall walking around barefoot and wearing the same two shirts for the entire semester...

seems like a lot of black folks who endure that during their formative years really internalize it and are more likely to embrace stand-offish attitudes toward other blacks in adulthood... possibly a driving motivator to the episode.

luckily didn't have to deal with that, but it seems a lot of "alternative" black folk point to bullying as a notable aspect of their upbringing. good episode.

Watching the 2nd run of this episode. Just figured out where I knew that "Marshalls" from, where Earn and his moms bought that FUBU shirt.

It's the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Marietta St near Northside. Right by GA Tech. I used to work in the buildings behind that store years ago, and I would stop in there before I had to travel and needed a throwaway bag. I would buy second-hand suitcases for the low low ($6-10).

This show is sooooo Atlanta. The Glovers are repping Eastside Atlanta lovely and putting regular folks on. Props to them.

That was the realest kid presenting I've ever seen.

From Beginning to End, how they interacted, mother and son, his older cousin, white teacher, natural hustle from his cousin, look of disbelief on his face when principal came into the classroom was solid fukking work. Not 20 year old playing 12..

I loved that they aired this episode this week with Kanye West struggle - he comes off has the young kid still trying to pass forward a struggle that's been engrave in our people for so long - at the end always trying to gain acceptance from other; and everything in the episode covered part of his life from - clothing, mental health, relationship between a mother and son, earn mother mentioning dragon ball black face (kanye mom being an activist)

He knew if I bring out the FUBU people would finally give me the attention

School is mental warzone for so many kids and when you decide to play sides like earn and his cousin, you don't know who you might be effected at the end of the day. Earn never tried to say the other guys shirt was fake but was never ready to sacrifice himself to protect him.

His mother telling him that a suit defines him has a man

That's why what Shaq said about BBB to me. He really means it when he wants black kids to be able to all afford something that is universally cool to everyone.

I also notice no one mentions how earn and the girl who gave him her number went about it. They never directly communicated - communication issues start off has boys and girls

From the preview:

Looks like the fellow classmates are roasting PaperBoi for wearing the fake Fubu. Earn comes to his aide with a physical or verbal, intellectual assault on the kid, leaving the class completely stunned.

At that point, PB may have felt morally obligated to look out for Earn.

Or, it can be something totally unrelated. You never know with this show :manny:

Damn this preview description couldnt be any more further from the truth.

I read this shyt earlier today actually believing it:mjlol:
