Matt Riddle recently appeared on Sean Waltman’s “X-Pac 1-2-360” podcast and discussed his transition from MMA to pro wrestling, WWE passing on him last year, going to China and more. You can check out some highlights below:

On working with WWN (MMA promotion based out of China): “WWN MMA. That’s right. I helped put that relationship together. We actually went over to China, talked to the government over there, talked to some government officials. We talked to like, the athletic board I would say and got some fights lined up. We’re going to be on national television in China–first time ever. Pretty big deal. We’re probably going to start doing some pro wrestling shows there that are going to be on national television as well.”

On defeating Jon Jones in high school wrestling: “I did. Actually two different occasions. But Jon Jones, he’s grown up a little bit. I’ve grown up a little bit. I’d still like to challenge him one day, but we’ll see what happens.”

On WWE not signing him last year: “I was still getting emails from Kane and stuff. So I was like, yeah. I think it was right before WrestleMania last year, they hit me up probably a couple months beforehand and they were like, hey Matt, sorry it took so long, but we’re going to take a pass on you. They said, not forever, of course, maybe down the road. But they said, because of your past…we don’t want to take a chance. I was like alright, I completely understand.”

That reminds me of his story about meeting Triple H. :lolbron:

411MANIA | Matt Riddle Talks About His Last Meeting With Triple H

On His Last Meeting With Triple H: “Very few words. I talked to (Triple H) probably like a year ago,.It was last year’s Royal Rumble, not this year’s Rumble. He came up to me at an Evolve event and he goes ‘Hey, I appreciate what you’re doing here’ and I go ‘ I appreciate what YOU’RE doing here.’ Then he looked at me kind of weird and he goes ‘I just wanna thank you for everything you’ve done’ and I go ‘I just wanna thank you for everything YOU’VE done’, and he looked at me weird, shook my hand, and walked away,”

The video of him discussing this is so, so great:

He could be amazing if he learns to maneuver his way around the WWE environment. He has everything you want in a wrestler.

I need to hear more about this.:krs:
An industry plant wrestler would be a dope ass idea
I was just gonna say.

That is Matt riddle.

He's clearly been a WWE project handed to Gabe
on the Saturday edition of Observer Radio, Meltzer basically confirmed/explained this. Sean Waltman saw Riddle training at the Monster Factory, praised him to HHH, and HHH/Regal told Gabe (Evolve) to sign/develop him. WWE didn't want to directly sign him because he (Riddle) had marijuana violations from UFC and they wanted to have him on a probation period basically, but have him signed by someone they can control (i.e. keep him fron signing with NJPW, ROH, etc)

He's got to be good because he lacks knee-pads AND boots, but I still like him. That says a lot for me.

Want to see him against Nakamura. I don't know, I actually really dig guys like him and O'Reilly...the new-school wrestling/MMA fusion cats.

O'Reilly stopped improving as soon as ROH took an interest in him as a singles guy right before Bobby Fish came in. Riddle is basically the New Era RVD and that is a very very good lane to be in.
