Funk was popularized in Ohio and the type of funk that was used to start G Funk was from Ohio. Also Dayton’s were in fact started in Dayton Ohio. Braids were not that is a style that follows us back

A long with Dayton Rims and braids

According to @K.Dot

Coli is this true?

They also said pendletons and dikkie suits but I shot that down in a previous thread
:duck:

Cali nikkas used to ride Crager true spoke before Daytons. Even when Daytons were popular, zenith wheels were just as in demand.
dikkie suits are a post WW2 warehouse outfit
. My family is a product of the Central ave corridor. Ben Davis and dikkies have been worn in cali since the late 40's.
Pigtails and cornrows. Come on man, look at Wattstax.

Salty got killled in late 75 early 76. You can see from the photo of his 73 Buick Rivera on cragers wire wheels. He is also sporting dikkies. Do we have photos of ohio nikkas in that time period with the same thing?

Above the fray.
There are a LOT of iconic funk musicians or artists who made classics in that genre who are from Ohio.

A LOT.

Moreso than Ohio artists who made a mark in other genres of music.

Bootsy/Catfish
Isely Brothers
Ohio Players
Lakeside
Zapp
The Dazz Band
Michael Hampton

probably leaving out around 10-15 acts.....

funk/funkyness started in the south and was originally a blues and jazz and even gospel feel-concept before the genre pioneered by James Brown was born ....ohio was a big part of the growth of funk after it left the south though

I see a lot of people are confusing starting a genre vs. starting a beat. Funk as a Genre of music is the creation from the mind of James Brown.

George Clinton is not one of the originators of Funk, it wasn't until his band the Parliament met with acts like Sly Stone that they changed their style from DuWop to Funk themed songs. Jimi Hendrix also influenced George Clinton on the P Funk tip.A lot of innovation of their band came about when they went to Detroit.

It’s damn shame Ohio doesn’t get it’s just due for being the home of funk music

Funk is to Ohio what Jazz is to New Orleans, Crunk to Memphis, Blues to Mississippi, Bass music to Miami, Trap to Atlanta and Country to Nashville
