i wished these Griselda guys would stop whining all the time. Conway has made radio tracks that flex could play in his sessions. Scatter brain, lemon, Chanel pearls, fear of god, KD just to name a few. Bennys collab with Cole could be played also. I think flex could do a better job of mixing up and taking chances on artist.

What demo is Con referring to when he feels like this? The lane they created with Griselda has a good earning model but what new fans would spins by Flex give him besides the ones he already has? Flex isn't wrong here and Con should maybe have a look at the demo he'd reach with a radio DJ that isn't nearly as powerful as a tastemaker as he once was. This rant would hold weight about 20-25yrs ago..dude needs to get his label poppin and maybe let them get some shine before he drops the umpteenth album talking about his face, bytch nikkas and getting the shooters involved.

The irony here is a nikka being mad about not being played on the radio in 2022 and calling nikkas old when his mindset is old

Griselda is one of the prime examples of being able to make a lane and eat without the radio and still that validation means so much to them

We're in the DIY get in where you fit in era. NBA YoungBoy one of the biggest names in rap and he's basically blackballed. And that nikkas shyt is unplayable on the radio :mjlol:

Where I'm confused is that... Griselda managed to do something that not many have. They were able to gain a lot of traction and a fanbase by doing them, their own sound, their own creative angle, etc. And they did it WITHOUT the support or need of radio. AND, they did it knowing the radio doesn't fukk with the kinda sound they do. They did them and it paid off.

So for Conway to suddenly even CARE whether Flex or whoever plays their shyt on Hot 97 is an awkward angle to come from. They ain't BEEN trying to appeal to what Hot 97 would normally play, nor do they barely do it now. You can't really expect something to happen that you're not attempting to achieve. You don't see Megan thee Stallion tryin' to get points with people who follow battle rap, you don't see Earthgang mad cause they don't get spins at bars & clubs... why would a dude who makes such non-radio-geared music think that their radio presence is being held back by one guy, or like if that guy "gets outta the way", the next DJ would definitely be playin' it?

I'm sure Conway (and to a degree, many of us 40+ MFs) recalls a time when "real hip-hop" had a greater shot at airplay than it does now, but even then, it ain't like we were hearing O.C. "Time's Up" at 7 in the evening on the radio. Those underground hip-hop shows nshyt like that when people reminisce on that era were special FOR A REASON. It was because they were playing all the shyt regular urban radio was barely touching. That's the kinda radio outlet Griselda would probably excel at if it was still a thing in NY. THAT is probably the bigger problem than whether or not their shyt gets played in the nighttime mix on Hot. Even in the era when Flex was playing Wu and Mobb Deep and Premo type shyt, there was music that had a SUPER underground feel that didn't fit with that. Unless they're ready to start gettin' on trap beats or hop on this upcoming house-influenced wave, Griselda should stay Griselda and proudly, because they carved out a niche that a lotta MFs would be glad to have.

but like a few years younger than Flex so this "

Jigga My nikka
Who Shot Ya
Broken Language
John Blaze
Ante Up
Flava In Your Ear
Bang Bang
Banned From TV
etc

All street records that nikkax loved that got played on the radio. It’s nobody’s fault they’ve yet to figure out how to do that
Quiet Storm was huge too.... Those did get play on the radio you are correct. Some Wu songs were as well in their prime, Triumph was huge. Shooks ones is also an anthem people still love to this day (Younger heads). So yes there was street records that caught burn.

. They still feel a way about it. Flex was never a fan of Griselda. He only had them on because so many fans was telling him he needs to have them on, he did it. But I don't think their style really is what Flex is into.
Yes this is where I think Conway's anger stems from more than anything. They still feel a way about it. Flex was never a fan of Griselda. He only had them on because so many fans was telling him he needs to have them on, he did it. But I don't think their style really is what Flex is into.
Yeah I was reading posts on that earlier watching the video of them on Flex.

I love Griselda but they need to stop crying. Love him or hate him, Flex lowkey checked the shyt out of Conway. Their music is catered to a nitch audience that love or was raised on 90's boom bap music. And to their credit, they have been the most successful in coming out that lane without any compromise in the music. The major artists cosigns, managements, tv placements have been in their favor and they did it without radio. So my thing is why even care at this point if they don't play your shyt? Conway said they need some new young DJ's up at Hot 97 to break artists like them. But truth be told, no young DJ is playing Griselda or breaking artists like them. I have a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I have countless younger cousins that are in their teens up to 30. These kids don't listen to Griselda. We're in the Durk, Fivio, Thugger, B Love, JI, Lil Baby, Polo G, Nardo Wick, EST Gee, NBA Youngboy era. Drill music is what's popping now. Also, these kids don't listen to Hot 97 or radio for that matter. They get their music off of Youtube or the streaming apps (apple music, spotify, etc). They don't go to Summer Jam. They go to festivals like Rolling Loud now. I'm in my 40's and even my age group (lets say mid 30's to mid/late 40's) don't even fukk with Griselda like that. They'll fukk with Benny the most because his music is more palatable to the masses. But honestly thats where it stops. Artists like Griselda want to hear their music played on Hot 97 and hear Flex drop bombs on it because they grew up in the 90's when the boom bap sound was prevalent on the radio and they want to live out their dreams of getting that same treatment. But Wu Tang, Onyx, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Nas, DMX, etc had songs that were hits on the streets before it became hits on the radio. Griselda and artists like them never had that.

Flex hit him with the ether

Flex is a guy that shouldn’t have lasted as long as he has and he’s still tapped in with what’s hot

Benny is getting more visibility on a mainstream level. And West is also… plus he’s locked in for what he wants to do AFTER music. I see some slick talk in here insinuating otherwise but nah… don’t get it fukked up.
