I love Griselda but they need to stop crying. Love him or hate him, Flex lowkey checked the shyt out of Conway. Their music is catered to a nitch audience that love or was raised on 90's boom bap music. And to their credit, they have been the most successful in coming out that lane without any compromise in the music. The major artists cosigns, managements, tv placements have been in their favor and they did it without radio. So my thing is why even care at this point if they don't play your shyt? Conway said they need some new young DJ's up at Hot 97 to break artists like them. But truth be told, no young DJ is playing Griselda or breaking artists like them. I have a 13 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I have countless younger cousins that are in their teens up to 30. These kids don't listen to Griselda. We're in the Durk, Fivio, Thugger, B Love, JI, Lil Baby, Polo G, Nardo Wick, EST Gee, NBA Youngboy era. Drill music is what's popping now. Also, these kids don't listen to Hot 97 or radio for that matter. They get their music off of Youtube or the streaming apps (apple music, spotify, etc). They don't go to Summer Jam. They go to festivals like Rolling Loud now. I'm in my 40's and even my age group (lets say mid 30's to mid/late 40's) don't even fukk with Griselda like that. They'll fukk with Benny the most because his music is more palatable to the masses. But honestly thats where it stops. Artists like Griselda want to hear their music played on Hot 97 and hear Flex drop bombs on it because they grew up in the 90's when the boom bap sound was prevalent on the radio and they want to live out their dreams of getting that same treatment. But Wu Tang, Onyx, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Nas, DMX, etc had songs that were hits on the streets before it became hits on the radio. Griselda and artists like them never had that.
Agreed but the ironic thing is Griselda has performed at Rolling Loud :russ:

Can someone explain how in 2022 a hip hop station like Hot 97 that caters to 15-30 years old justifies advert rates to advertisers when most of this demo don’t listen to radio for music and go online instead. Who tunes in to listen for music?

Benny been sitting on that shyt for too long thinking the perfect moment is gonna come. NY artists got a terrible habit of doing that

Like Santana having an album worth of Wayne features and doing nothing with them
if it's the Drake feature I don't believe he's able to use that. If it's the Nas feature then that joint belongs to Nas.

Machines a legend fukk flex
Also, I checked the stream out on YT and it wasn't as big a deal as it's being made out to be. He played some songs, talked about upcoming projects, and someone in the room brought up Flex. Then he kind of just ranted about Flex for 5 mins and then went back to playing music. He didn't sit down just to air out a bunch of grievances with Flex or anything like that. He was just kind of saying that he felt like Flex always fronted on them (which is kind of true; Flex had to be forced to let Conway and Benny freestyle on his show from what I understand) and Conway was also asking Flex what kind of music he listened to. Because Flex had made a comment about how he didn't personally listen to anything that wasn't in the clubs, so Conway was questioning his personal taste. :dame:

I don't know. Something like that.

Griselda makes dope music but one thing that annoyed me about them (especially Benny) is that they rarely go out of their lane. As hard as G Unit mixtapes were, for example, Banks and even Yayo had dope singles for the radio on their albums. These nikkas don't even try

i wished these Griselda guys would stop whining all the time. Conway has made radio tracks that flex could play in his sessions. Scatter brain, lemon, Chanel pearls, fear of god, KD just to name a few. Bennys collab with Cole could be played also. I think flex could do a better job of mixing up and taking chances on artist.
Exactly, all three made shyt Flex could play on the radio. You could tell the nikkas that don’t listen to them keep saying they don’t make or have songs for the radio when in fact they do.

All this shyt could’ve gotten play on the radio

My nikka. Benny does not make shyt suitable for the radio and 2022. I singled him out for a reason.

His early work actually had a modern sound but he strayed away from that when they signed to Shady.

The only time that nikka made something out of his comfort zone is when he linked up with Russ. And that's a fact. Don't reply with links from that bullshyt Burden of Proof album either. There's nothing that can be worth playlisting on there

Nowadays ppl care more bout bullshyt like this then the actual music. Take banks for example today he dropped a real album and its top level excellence.

Ironically, a lot of these people who have no idea what they're talking about might've actually been aware of how versatile Benny and Conway can be if gatekeepers like Flex actually gave shyt a push and played their music on the radio. :martin:

You didn't even mention these joints

That's cause J Cole was on it. Benny said it himself he doesn't make songs for chicks. But their formula works and there's nothing wrong with that. I just wish he would at least make bangers like Me and Doug and Illegal Life again

This is the problem that almost always arises amongst artists who REALLY had to get it out the mud. That chip on the shoulder mentality that helped you push aside all adversity and doubters ultimately comes into conflict with corporate entities who hold a certain amount of power and you feel like you can literally SEE the glass ceiling their holding over you.

I can see where Conway and by extension Griselda is coming from because they idolize the golden era where it felt like that dusty, grimy, boom bap sound ruled NY radio but people forget that was actually a short amount of time if you want to say from 91-95 encompassed that era. By 96 Nas had switched up and expanded his style. Biggie went more grandiose. The Wu became The Wu Gambinos. And then we all know what happened when the shiny suit era was ushered in.

Griselda doesn’t make radio friendly music. There are a FEW joints they have across various projects (mainly Benny’s) that could have gotten that love but overall thats not their brand. And they don’t NEED IT. They’ve literally built a loyal fanbase off their style & grind. People LOVE them nikkas. I honestly think they’ve gotten to a certain point where they’re “beyond” radio. Benny got signed to muthafukking DEF JAM off the strength of their movement. fukk what Flex plays! I’m sure if Conway or WSG wanted to be on Major Labels they could be. They’ve got a roster of artists loyal to them and they all put out decent to great music.
