Their paid stooges were humiliated. The Emiratis, Kenyans, probably even the Turks are not happy with Farmajo either.

The problem with Somalia is that we have too many foreign interests who are heavily vested in our future and too many corrupt politicians who are willing to be bought, which only causes further destabilization. Farmajo understood this, which is why he called for less foreign influence and for serious steps to be taken towards rebuilding the somali army, so Somalis can begin to take care of their own security.

He has to walk a very thin line tho.. I certainly do not envy him, it's a huge task.

Yeah, we're all shocked. Won by a landslide too. Hopefully he doesn't get assassinated :wow:

First time in a long time we've seen a Somali president with so much public support. Even people from "hostile" tribes were celebrating together.

What a moment:wow:

This is great news.

I only hope that he can ensure Somalia's autonomy without negative Khaleeji or Turkish interference. That he can create some sort of regional agreement with Somaliland and Puntland and finally begin positive trade relationships with Ethiopia. Believe it or not, positive trade relations with Ethiopia can help your economy!

The thing is he's not all talk. He walked the walk before. The guy was PM for 8 months in 2010/11 and caused huge changes. Chose cabinet full of technocrats with great credentials, checked foreign influence, got basic state servcies going again and never stole a dime :wow:

For all this he was unceremoniously fired by the UN/International community who leaned on the then president to get rid of him. Somalis rioted in the streets and burned tires. Now this is why you see this outpouring of hope and euphoria...people remember those 8 months and now he's back in the top job. He wasn't tempted by the corruption.

He was expected to come last and not a serious contender since MPs were doing the electing (general election he would win by a landside)...but all that money spent by khaleejis, Turks, Ethios and Somali MPs pocketed the money and elected Farmajo :dead:

Oil in 2017 + Farmajo with his new cabinet. We byke :to:

We need positive relations with all our neighbors tbh. Whatever political grievances we have with them, now is not the time to bring those up. Hopefully we can solve our issues through diplomatic means in the future. We don't need more instability.

We also do need international partners, let's keep it real. Turkey has its own agenda, but has been very useful in helping to train the Somali army as well as investing in the country. The khaleej is our biggest trade partner, but we need to start looking elsewhere. They cannot be trusted (the UAE was backing Kenya to annex a huge chunk of our maritime territory in the ICJ, we're still fighting that bogus claim, and this is likely to drag on for years to come). We export tons of livestock, Frankincense etc to the khaleej annually at prices that are far below market value. They've been screwing us for decades and taking advantage of our weaknesses.

If we get our shyt together, provide security for our people, neutralize shabaab and clan leaders, invest in key industries like fishing, agriculture, develop our ports, natural gas and oil exploration, we could get very far in 10-20 years. We're only like 15 million people, we have more than enough resources to sustain ourselves and build a strong economy.

We're our own worst enemies tho :wow:

Muhfukkas are fighting over scraps like animals when we have so many untapped resources :snoop:

I'm very optimistic tho. Looks like ppl have finally had enough of the bullshyt.

Although I'm of the opinion that Somalis need a strong leader and cannot function under a democratic rule. We're too stubborn and individualistic. :manny:

Nah breh that oil needs to stay buried for now :whoa:

If you think things are bad now, wait and see what happens if foreign companies begin digging for oil. :damn:

It should be untouched until we have a strong government and a strong army.

Yup. Democracy is a joke anyway. Just breeds weak leaders that have to pander. not a trait Somalis respect.

Facts

He needs to tread carefully like your boy Deng and play it smart. No doubt all those who invested so much money in this election are unhappy at the outcome.

He tore up a few contracts last time :mjpls:

I agree. We do not have the capacity to be signing oil deals nor dealing with major corporations. We need to get shyt together for a little while. Oil might wreck everything.
