No. I'm from the northeast, however I believe in the Kacaan philosophy for the simple fact. That's when were the most powerful and developed. After '91 we had no government.

It was far from ideal breh. The way he crushed all political descent by poisoning the drinking water of some tribes, bombing others etc.. It laid the ground for the mess that was the civil war.

He did implement some positive policies though especially in the early years. And the way he played both America and the USSR and made Somalia one of the strongest countries in Africa at the time was very smart.

The tribal militias that overthrew him fukked up by not having a plan for what to do after they took control.

Anyway, this is a very sensitive topic for obvious reasons and we will all have a different perspective on it depending on our background and what we/our families experienced during/after the kacaan regime.

We need to move forward from this blame game and look to the future.

Siad Barre did some good things in the first 8 years

But after that, it was downhill spiral. The Ogaden War in hindsight was a strategic mistake and the management of the war was bad. Expelling the Russians/Cubans was stupid and trying to rely on Jimmy Carter was also stupid.

Hard currency was very hard to bring into the country or take out (my awoowe had trouble sending cash to my dad in the USA). The country was broke and had to take IMF loans... privatize certain sectors of the economy.

It was a ticking time bomb.

Somalia needs to get the basics right. Security and reviving econ development

I agree minus the ogaden war part. We should've have went to war when Selassie was at his weakest right before his death and managed the succession. But alas.
