From a casual's eye, WWE and AEW both look ridiculous and shells of what wrestling used to be

I watch NXT, AEW, and NWA, with sprinkles of Impact and other stuff. A watched a HOG match for the first time two weeks ago (fatal 4 way that had TJP and 3 of her guys I don’t recognize) and it wasn’t bad at all, was a fun match. Some of the Rumble was the first main roster stuff I watched since Kofi lost the title.

I still don’t feel like NXT is pushing anything forward like some need to claim.

NXT is really nothing but a sterilized INDY fed with WWE connections.

Something like Lucha Underground was the perfect example of forward thinking.

Hell even TNA back when they started the whole Broken Universe with Matt (though more credit may should go to him).

But then that goes back to my case of all the criticism and complaints one may have, do the people really want “forward thinking or companies to move forward”?

Majority of the things companies have tried in contexts of being different a strong contingent dismisses/dismissed or downplay

Bu bu bu 6 sided rings, trash
Bu bu bu over the top cinematic storylines, trash
Bu bu bu shaking hands before & after matches or honor, trash

And so on

Forward thinking doesn’t mean reinventing the wheel. It’s simple things like not writing dated characters and storylines, incorporating elements from the indies and Japan with a WWE scale and storytelling style, and presentational things that lead to a cohesive product like naming PPVs after the city it’s in, a metal soundtrack, a black ring mat and darker lit arenas. These are simple things all partly inspired by UFC, Japan, and indies but it’s the culmination of it and under Vince’s budget that makes it unique.

That’s fair, then AEW is already doing some of the things you mentioned.:ehh:

I don’t get too deep in Independent and overseas shyt because that’s kinda too much for me at this point, and it’s not as easily accessible as what’s on tv

but I don’t really have a big problem with the products like that personally

I watch AEW because it’s cool to see American wrestling done on a big stage outside of WWE. Doesn’t have the Vince stink on it

My favorite show is RAW right now because I feel like it has the perfect blend of everything. We have solid up and coming talent getting looks, got cool interesting storylines developing (edge/RKO and the messiah faction) and we got complete goofy fukkery that keeps me entertained

NXT has the workrate. Reminds me of 2006 ring of honor. It’s not presented in a “big” way but the in ring product is incredible

Smackdown is complete trash though. to me at least.. they definitely regressed, and I guarantee it’s because of Vince McMahon. It’s his priority since it’s on Fox, so of course the loves of his life, Baron Corbin and Roman are heavily featured

I personally think the in-ring today fukking trumps that back in the day bullshyt people keep bringing up. :camby:

Storylines may not be that compelling in some cases, but I'll take the matches of today over the bullshyt that would get served up back 10 years ago, hell 15. :gag:

Again.... if you watched tonight’s ep of AEW, you can’t sit here and say they arenas look like TNA Orlando studio.

That’s just false and disingenuous
their stage design resembles tna's with the tunnel, I believe its a direct homage to early tna if im not mistaken, but they still look way more large scale than tna ever did considering theyre doing arenas while tna was in a small studio

I don't care how much money they have, they wrestle in venues that look like just like TNA's Orlando studio shyt.
But AEW is putting on shows in actual arenas...The Impact Zone in Orlando would be closer to what NXT does every week in Full Sail.

NXT is a good show but yeah NXT isn't pushing anything forward except for Velveteen. It's what would happen if ROH/Impact/Gabe's promotions had the money to keep their guys. The only difference with NXT versus what WWE were doing a decade ago is that WWE aren't tearing guys down from scratch and giving them gimmicks that are completely alien to them anymore. These dudes are playing the exact same characters whilst having a lot of the same matches they had in other places. NXT is the greatest hits version of these guys' indy careers with a WWE budget.

I don’t even think the storylines were that compelling, I was just a kid...

As I sit here a nearly 30 year old man, Mae Young getting piped by Mark Henry don’t really hit like that, but 12 year old me thought that shyt was groundbreaking television..

some of y’all looking for a feeling y’all can’t get back because.. adulthood and shyt

People bringing up the worst storylines ever from previous popular eras in comparison to now never fails :russ: Bossman and Big Show >>>> “I’m a good wrestler, you’re a good wrestler, let’s alternate wins and losses for the next 3 weeks until the DQ at the PPV”
