This shyt was unreal 10/10 he on a different level, if only Andrew Wiggins has this dude focus

Dude is probably on adderall

Yeah, if you're free soloing giant cliffs without ropes then a drug which can lead to anxiety and panic attacks would be a great idea. :dead:

nyknick explained it:

Deep dive into how hard it is to focus? :mjlol: His father was on the spectrum, he's on the spectrum, his 'journal/diary' consists of best footholds and spots to grab onto.

It's finding out that his mother never hugged him, anything he did wasn't good enough. Girlfriend asking him if there was anything in his life that would make him not risk his life, and him saying nope :heh:

Plus they showed in the movie that his amygdala basically doesn't even process fear, at least not via any normal stimulus. :picard:

It actually took him 3 hours, 50 minutes to free solo the wall...which is still insane seeing as how plenty of serious climbers take multiple days.

Honnold also has the speed record for El Capitan of 1 hour, 58 minutes (with ropes and a partner, so they can go faster and take more risks).

That's climbing 27 feet a minute for two straight hours. :ohhh:
I’m try free solo El Capitan this summer :russ:

The camera on the ground videotaped the entire climb from beginning to end. Not to mention that this is literally the most famous climbing wall in the world, there were dozens of people climbing that day and hundreds of others walking by or watching.

That analogy was one of the best lines of the film. Ain't no silver medal up there. :francis:

That's a terrible comparison. Dawn Wall has a 100% rotten tomatoes rating with just 15 reviews. Free Solo has a 99% rotten tomatoes rating with 135 reviews. :usure:

You can't compare ratings from a small niche audience with ratings from a movie that went mainstream.
Dawn wall is still better though imo. I just feel like it gives you more but I do love free solo and enjoy alex more than Tommy. Both are great films though. Might be moving to Colorado next winter. I do want to get into rock climbing with ropes and harnesses though :whoa: only like 3 places to rock climb in Michigan and they aren't big at all and I believe only one of them is in the lower peninsula. Ppl be ice climbing the waterfalls in the U.P. that's another level of sketchy:mindblown:

They were together since 2015, she lived with him in the van and they moved into a house together :gucci: How is showing more climbing with Tommy going to tell us anything personal about him?

He doesn't really give me spectrum vibes like how they talked about his dad. Dude is just very calculated and different compared to most ppl. Definitely a nerdy dude who became one of the best and most famous climbers ever. He said fukk the cubicle shyt I'm about to be worth a couple milli climbing mountains, living his dream. He will die on the mountain though whether it's soon or 20-30 years. And that's probably how he would want it.

If you guys likes this I'm telling you watch meru on Netflix. Jimmy the guy who did most of the filing for free solo climbs meru with 2 other dudes failing once and then getting it. It's a mountain that has rock climbin, ice climbing and some more shyt not to mention it's higher so I think they needed oxygen at certain points. Jimmy kills filing and editing shyt

Um yea I wasn't trying to show that Dawn Wall has been seen by more people. I was just showing that there are people other than me that thought Dawn Wall was better.

I wish they had less of his girl in the movie. She was killing me. The girl i went with was giving me side eyes every time he would brush her off talking about me having similarities with Alex. He was a rock climber before he met ole girl.
Lmao I bet that shyt was awkward af:russ:

I have a friend at the science/engineering school I went to that calls it "splashperger". (Just a splash of Asperger). It really is a spectrum, which means that you can be only a little bit onto that spectrum. That shows up a LOT in the high-achieving tech community. For sure Honnold has cognitive peculiarities that are related to that in some form - you could see the way he processed emotions and human interactions was way off the curve.

That looks really interesting - just read up on it and it had been one of the most sought-after unclimbed routes in the Himalayas. Like 15 different serious expeditions had tried and failed before Jimmy's group succeeded.

The Real Titletown
shyt is mind blown for real. He climbed that hoe in 4 hrs. I wish I was there to see it live

It would he pretty crazy to see that live.

With that said, I think just seeing the reaction of a few of those guys that couldn't even watch him go up, speaks volumes about how amazing that feat was/is. These are professional climbers, and not only professional climbers but elite ones, and you have a guy that's at ground level that can't even watch him going up as he's scared.

I don't typically watch movies multiple times within a week, but I think I might watch this documentary again.

Watching those crazy Russian guys and European that climb those towers, my hands would sweat watching them. This is 1 million times crazier than what those dudes do.

This dude is karate kicking rock to rock on granite that feels like glass.:dead:.

Could have a lot to do with his childhood as well.:yeshrug: Could also be splashbergers haha I have a half brother with autism and the dude is one of the best singers and guitar players I know. His ear for pitch is amazing.:blessed:

Alex gives back a lot from what I’ve read too, he seems like a great person. It’s still hard to wrap my head around what he accomplished

the internet
His quote said it was crazy to live in preparation for the next life. And since atheist don't believe in a "next life" hence the craziness to us. He's not saying its crazy to prepare for the future or even believe in something. Just that it's crazy to prepare or believe in something in the future that doesn't exist.

And you said "All religious people are trying to live the best life possible." Not sure how much more simple and naive you could get with that. Living the best life according to what? The Bible and not themselves? And are you saying non-religious people aren't trying to live their best life or can't live as good of a life as a religious person?
whats interesting to me about people who do extreme sports and what you guys are talking about is...

...people like doing things like climbing because wether they realize it or not...they are trying to get closer to God.
What I mean by that is the silencing of their brain.
When you're doing something that puts your life on the line, your brains stops w/ all that chatter, or goes into extream focusing mode...
...once youre able to shut your brain off...you reach that point of oneness w/ the creator.

its the same effect that people are looking for with mediation...
...the turning off of the brain.

The brain constantly chatting is what leads many people to unhappiness...
...once youre able to turn it off...you're happy.

Ive been an atheist my whole life...but this shyt just came to me one day a few months ago and I didnt even know that this is basically what a lot of the spirituality coming out of India is based on
