Did he really climb up the mountain or was this all staged. I thought it was all stages throughout the movie tbh
:pachaha: stages? while he’s up the wall with nothing holding him at all?? does an eagle swoop through to scoop him in-between cuts?

The other dude said free solo-ing is like an Olympic sport where you either win the gold medal...or you die! :damn:

They were together since 2015, she lived with him in the van and they moved into a house together :gucci: How is showing more climbing with Tommy going to tell us anything personal about him?
Deep dive into how hard it is to focus? :mjlol: His father was on the spectrum, he's on the spectrum, his 'journal/diary' consists of best footholds and spots to grab onto.

It's finding out that his mother never hugged him, anything he did wasn't good enough. Girlfriend asking him if there was anything in his life that would make him not risk his life, and him saying nope :heh:
To each his own I guess, she just didn't really add anything to the film for me. He has Aspergers like his dad probably, that's why its so hard for him to show emotion.

Tommy and Alex are the GOATs just that aspect alone is more interesting to watch than anything they showed with his girlfriend. Tommy was the most insightful and you could see how much he really cared about Alex, clearly they've become good friends he wasn't just helping him climb. And exactly the stuff about his mom/family and not being good enough was way more compelling but they only spent 2-3 minutes on it.

Don't pay attention to dude. The Dawn Wall was a surface level movie, I think dude is part of the promotional team or something:jbhmm:

Lol I’m not the only one in the thread who’s said they think that Dawn Wall is better. And Dawn Wall is rated higher on all of the critic sites like IMDb and rotten tomatoes

He had that powder with him so his hands would get a good grip even if he did sweat. That wasn’t gonna be an issue

This dude really said a little powder would make sure that his grip wouldn't even possibly be an issue.

:dead:.

This is honestly one of the most amazing athletic feats I've ever seen. It's tough to compare it to everyday sports that we watch, but it may be the greatest athletic feat I've seen because of the factor of one mis-step, one cramp, one less grain of powder on his hands (:lolbron:) and he'd be dead.:damn:.

Absolutely amazing.

I couldn't see it live. I was in the theater getting all kinds of anxiety like I might be seeing a low key snuff film. I didn't know ole boy survived and was doing a press run.

I wish they had less of his girl in the movie. She was killing me. The girl i went with was giving me side eyes every time he would brush her off talking about me having similarities with Alex. He was a rock climber before he met ole girl.

The camera on the ground videotaped the entire climb from beginning to end. Not to mention that this is literally the most famous climbing wall in the world, there were dozens of people climbing that day and hundreds of others walking by or watching.

:pachaha: stages? while he’s up the wall with nothing holding him at all?? does an eagle swoop through to scoop him in-between cuts?

That analogy was one of the best lines of the film. Ain't no silver medal up there. :francis:

That's a terrible comparison. Dawn Wall has a 100% rotten tomatoes rating with just 15 reviews. Free Solo has a 99% rotten tomatoes rating with 135 reviews. :usure:

You can't compare ratings from a small niche audience with ratings from a movie that went mainstream.

Film was amazing.

One of the most amazing things I've seen! Dude climbed it in under 3 hours as well :whoo:

It actually took him 3 hours, 50 minutes to free solo the wall...which is still insane seeing as how plenty of serious climbers take multiple days.

Honnold also has the speed record for El Capitan of 1 hour, 58 minutes (with ropes and a partner, so they can go faster and take more risks).

That's climbing 27 feet a minute for two straight hours. :ohhh:
