It’s not even about being lyrical for me it’s about rapping just rapping traditionally no melodies, no voice changes, weaving out these sung rapped flows, no auto tune
that's never gonna happen even jay be using melodies now

Whats funny is that this era of rap is closer to lyrical rap than the mumble rap era of 4-5 years ago

The flows are definitely different and some songs are pure melodic and vibey, but cats like fivio foreign are really rapping

The popular style of rap is way closer to trap rappers of the mid to late 2000s

the big picture is the fact the art form of rapping has been pushed to the back for autotune crooning in the mainstream. everybody on this message board can find artist to listen to. thats not what the concern is about.

its a young nikka out there riding in the backseat of his mom or dad’s car hearing the radio and there isnt much rapping being displayed through that medium which is still a huge source for casual music listeners. that same music is whats going to influence that young nikka if he eventually becomes an aspiring artist down the road. so what freddie says is 1000% facts. the less rapping being displayed in mainstream hiphop the more its guaranteed it will die.

i dont care for him but cordae is in limbo cus he does not have a real lane in today’s mainstream landscape which isnt fair. the lane is essentially dead.

whats popular is what casual music listeners the ones who move the needle when it comes to sales cares about. us on this board in the grand scheme of things dont matter cus we make up a small percentage of the consumer base.
Hip-Hop becoming the main club music really fukked up the genre because it forced everybody to be in that lane if they want to pop in the mainstream.

Before clubs were mostly House Music and Miami Bass and hip-hop clubs like The Tunnel were a whole different atmosphere. You just needed street bangers or radio singles, not strip club music, so rappers didn't have to worry about the clubs.

can you even consider that autotune harmonizing people doing as rap? They don't even be rhyming most of the time.

Nope, just a bunch of super emo-thug “rappers” who max out as “average” at rapping and very subpar at singing, masked by autotune. That’s a genre of hip hop that needs to go the hell away.

There’s very few rappers 25 and under who rap well traditionally or even attempt to but keep posting y’all 40 year old coke rappers :bryan:
Today's landscape is very different but to enforce your point even more who's this generation's Talib, Common, Lupe, Mos, etc? Every iteration of Rap has always had some dope dudes to balance the genre out yet they're missing today.

Everything in this post is wrong

EDM used to.\ be the defacto club music and now it’s rap

Rap was club music before EDM even in white clubs, I know nikkaz who own clubs, rappers don't even make dance music or club music anymore

Playing a rap song in a bar or lounge doesn't make a club song

what are you talking about

Club music is like Nelly Hot in here

Fiesta by Jay-Z and R. Kelly

rappers use to make songs specifically for the club, and for people to dance to
