#4080 strikes again.
Correctamundo. And I know you were probably just using $1 as an example...but I believe back then the industry standard back then was around 8-12 percent of the sale of the album especially for newer artists with no leverage. As I remember, usually you only recoup from your royalties. So if you’re only getting paid $1 per album sold then you have to pay back that $43 mil FIRST only coming from that royalty money THEN you can start receiving royalty checks. I think that’s how it works. Or used to.
This is on point
NO BROTHER
THE LABELS RECEIVE THE MASS
MAJORITY OF THE MONEY FROM
RECORD SALES....
BUT THAT ADVANCE RECOUPMENT
COMES DIRECTLY FROM THE ARTISTS
PORTION OF THE RECORD SALES
SO IF THE ARTIST WAS GETTING
ONE DOLLAR PER SALE
THE LABEL HAS TO RECOUP
46 MILLION DOLLARS FROM
THAT ONE DOLLAR PER SALE
BEFORE THE ARTIST RECEIVES ROYALTIES.
ARTIST BEEN KNOWING THIS
WHICH IS WHY THEY ALWAYS SAID
THEY DONT MAKE MONEY FROM
RECORD SALES THEY MAKE MONEY
FROM TOURING.
YOU THINK DURST DIDNT
KNOW WHY HE NEVER RECIEVED
ANY ROYALTIES IN HIS WHOLE CAREER?
30 YEARS AFTER THE FACT...
STOP LETTING THESE PPL
PLAY YALL
He’ll be aight
I understand all of that which is why it doesn't make sense for the label to say it's far from recoupment, because clearly Limp Bizkit wasn't seeing any money since they still owed from the advances that they got

Label making it seem like the band wasn't even bringing that much money any, or at least not enough to pay off the initial advances
IF LIMP BIZKIT STILL OWES
THE LABEL MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
IT IS FAR FROM RECOUPMENT
BECAUSE ITS GONNA TAKE YEARS
TO GENERATE THAT FROM LIMP BIZKITS
SMALL PORTION OF STREAM ROYALTIES

even at $1 per album, the album sales exceed (46 million records sold) the money UMG spent ($43 million)....
Yep I'm pretty familiar with Forrest Gump grossing almost 700 million, but the studio says they were in the red.The same way I’ve heard about movie companies fukking around with the books. They sign an actor to get paid such such on the back end royalties but then they fiddle with the amounts and budgets and what got paid where etc and suddenly a huge blockbuster didn’t make enough money and there’s nothing left to pay royalties. We don’t know how much he made per album… well have to see the real numbers.. and his contract..even at $1 per album, the album sales exceed (46 million records sold) the money UMG spent ($43 million)....

I could see how they haven't recouped. With the advance for a whole band, marketing, music video budgets, distribution, etc. Alot of those contracts were designed to essentially be unrecoupable. It aint right but it aint uncommon either.
