of them going away in the first place
I disagree- they were never really there to begin with and the women never wore em like that in modern times.

The shyt like the Salafi movement made the men start forcing women to wear veils and all those sexist laws and punishments were introduced. Things like the fall of the Shah to extremist Shias - I could go on. The failure of Somalia’s economy in the 70s.

I’d argue moreso the effects of globalism and colonization ruined their economies, created war, instability which led to the emergence of these groups taking over in the first place. So the west is still at fault here because they exploited the fukk out of these areas and in some cases literally overthrew entire governments to place with religious extremists.

Interesting. i remember reading that Afghanistan used to be a very metropolitan place in the 70s until the Taliban took it over in the 80s.

It was, mainly all Islamic counties were.

The Taliban really fukked up the entire Islamic world. They really do live in bizarro world - just look up the photos. All that burqa and veil shyt ain’t normal - very few women actually wore that back then.

Taliban only took over later (in the 90s) because of after-effects of the USSR invasion and the US backing moudjahidines against Moscow, who would eventually become Talibans. Massoud was the one the West could've and should've backed, but they never did and he was assassinated two days before 9/11.

And then you’ll hear “we don’t understand why Muslims feel alienated and don’t integrate in our culture?”
To be honest, this appears they have given up on that concern.

Yeah there will be more attacks but that is also what the French government is also wishing for, at least privately. I'd be surprised if Macron wins a second term and Le Pen doesn't win and really comes in and ramps it up.

For Muslims of France, this is their first soft step to tell you they plan on pushing you out. It will only get worse from here.

this was a thing moreso with elite cosmopolitan women - aka, the women most likely to go get pictures taken of them. not all the women in the country were dressing like that

heres an iranian movie from 1969 set in a rural village. go to 35 minutes in, all the women are wearing chadoors

another iranian movie from 1974 about a rural dude and his wife - go to 12:00, shes wearing a chadoor

the historical truth is more complicated than either "women wore veils before colonialism" or "women only started wearing veils after the islamic revolution". whether women wore veils or not in muslim countries was varied and depended on the country, what social and economic classes they were in and a lot of other factors
