He did the same thing to Biden last week but they spoke on the phone recently.

This is what DeSantis does. When Biden came to visit, DeSantis declined to meet with him an did a press conference somewhere else. Last year when Biden came for another Hurricane situation, DeSantis declined to meet with him even though Biden said he planned on seeing DeSantis. DeSantis was running for President last year and felt that being seen with Biden would hurt his chances among Republicans. Also, he wants to run again in 2028 and being a dikk to the opposing party is how he believes he can obtain power.

In 2021, Biden and DeSantis met down there for a Hurricane situation, but at that time DeSantis was looking to win re-election. He wasn't a Presidential candidate at the time. So this actually was a good idea for him.

It's all calculation. Republican officials are still haunted by the Chris Christie/Obama moment in 2012. When Christine was New Jersey Governor and Obama came though to check out Hurricane damage. Christie hugged Obama, people believed it helped Obama in his re-election, and Christine was shunned for it by Republicans for being too friendly to Obama.
