There are plenty of fantasy shows and movies that show fascists in sympathetic light and show depth and layers to nazi's etc. The man in high castle comes to mind as an example of a big budget highly acclaimed show that humanized Nazi's. Plenty of movies and shows show facists as more than just simple mindless evil monsters.

But with regards to BLACK people. ALL those europeans they idolize would be considered our Nazi's and facists. But yall will watch movies that idolize and paint them in a positive light. Abe lincoln and the founding fathers who all owned slaves.. Christopher Columbus, Napolean Bonaparte, English royal family etc.. All these cacs killed, enslaved and terrorized black people around the globe. You would have to boycott 50% of movies and tv shows if that was the criteria.

I live fine avoiding those programs

Nigerians will just argue anything anyhow. They always forget their place in the world.

On a surface level. If you look at from a stand point of pure action fantasy like black panther and you are somewhat ignorant about african culture I can see why someone would say its good. Cause in that aspect its a standard 2022 movie with the standard sprinkles of woman empowerment and including a gay character etc. But when you look at it as a movie that is supposed to be based in Africa in the 1800 and early 1900 its pretty ridiculous. Not even getting into the historical inaccuracies. The accents alone are terrible. The fact that 2 white women wrote this movie is also very apparent cause its all surface level. There is no need for essays or dissertations cause this movie aint that deep. Its Disney feel good movie status.

As far as the boycott stuff. Kind of silly cause the movie is complete work of fiction and just based on historical figures. They never said it was based on a true story or historically accurate. Folks have no problem supporting fictional movies and shows of racist europeans and colonizers. Whether its spartans and movies like 300 or game of thrones or the 100s of fantasy movies about Europe in ww2. etc..

I POST WHAT I POSTED IN THE FILM ROOM ABOUT THIS MOVIE...

IF SOMEONE TRIED TO MAKE
A FILM ABOUT A POSITIVE ASPECT OF HITLER/NAZIS THAT HAD NOTHING
TO DO WITH THE HOLOCAUST
THEY WOULD GET BURIED AND
THE FILM WOULD NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY.

TO BE SO DISMISSIVE ABOUT THIS
IS VERY INSULTING.

My post that you partially quoted was before your post. Also, you don't have a clue about my descent and don't try to say that you do because of my post that you barely quoted. Now go back to your 3rd world latrine.

Benin is seen in oral history within Southern Nigeria as the origin place of many peoples. My paternal ancestral lore has us fleeing Benin around the 1500s from a tyrannical emperor, before we became Igbo.

Lagos started off as a Benin war camp.

An Edo friend told me Benin’s language is not spoken widely in Southern Nigeria because they refused to teach Edo to non-native speakers

I read something recently about the Yoruba and Edo people being related and having shared Princes and shared Alaafins/Oba/Kings. That is really interesting stuff. Edo people also have some history with Igbos especially along the west bank of the Niger River. Really interesting stuff.

Naw.

This is different.

The movie has them as the protagonists and presents a lie that people in that Kingdom wanted to end slavery when in reality even after cacs took over and made it illegal they still wanted to continue selling slaves. How is that honest? That's propaganda.

They're banking on black people being completely ignorant and trying to get Black Panther money. Money from the descendants of the people the Dahomey captured and sold to Europeans.

Then when Black people don't support this trash they'll say "black people don't want to support black female led movies" when all they had to do was make The Dahomey the antagonists and the protagonists some other tribe of women they're trying to enslave who fought back.

You can correct me if I'm wrong but the narrative of the Man in The High Castle was that the Nazi's won the war and took over and focuses on a resistance group trying to rebel?

If correct that dynamic keeps the Nazis as villains/antagonists which is why there is even a "resistance" in the first place.

This movie is like if a movie was made about a Nazi military unit/division who decided to fightt other Nazis to stop persecution of the Jews. Which they then say is "based on powerful true events". This is then marketed and sold to Jews.

CRAZY how I'm seeing liberal cacs defend this movie saying "it's exploring the dynamics of slavery which wasn't just done by Europeans but also by Africans which have never been discussed/explored"

While racists cacs are the ones calling it out for making heroes out of slave traders (of course they see it as a "woke movie") but still you would think it would be the other way around :mindblown:

Here is a movie about a "good" nazi falling in love with a black woman.

I just watched the trailer:

1. It still depicts the Nazi's as the antagonists/villains. The Woman King does not with The Dahomey.

2. It's not marketed to Jews like how The Woman King is being marketed to Black People, primarily AA's.

3. The movie was criticized and received backlash for being historically inaccurate.

If you can find me a movie which has a Nazi Military Unit/Division rebelling against other Nazi's because they want to stop the persecution of Jews which is then branded as being "based on true events" along with being marketed to Jewish people let me know. Because that is the only apt comparison to this movie.

Somewhat, but some Yoruba DNA also stemmed from the Oyo Civil War. That war flooded the slave market because the Yoruba were getting their internal enemies up out of there which took their attention off of beating the brakes off of those Dahomey bum bytches. However you are correct, because Dahomey did attack some of the westernmost Yoruba in modern day Nigeria and modern day Benin.

In fact it is an insult that Dahomey named its modern country after the Empire of Benin, because the Empire of Benin banned slave trading back in the 1500s. So now people that don't know history think that the modern country of Benin is the same as the Empire of Benin.
The Kingdom of Benin (the one that's in present day South-Western Nigeria) was engaged in the slave trade well into the 18th century. They were also among the first to make contact with the Europeans; giving them slaves in exchange for materials and weapons.

They didn't sell their own, however, only Igbos and other neighbouring tribes.
