We go on so much foolishness. Why are we responding 5 deep on a ladder truck for things like you said, drunks..falls..minor fender bender accidents…baby with a fever. 911 abuse is off the charts, people call for literally anything.

The worst misconception that people have is “I’ll get a room at the ER quicker if the ambulance takes me” :mjlol:

Nope your ass going right to triage, take a seat :camby:

I mean I get it. Fires are down and probably 90% of what we do is medical. But people take advantage of that shyt greatly. Stop calling us to carry you to the curb. I can only imagine busy houses who have to deal with that shyt. Don’t fukking wait to call us at 3am in the morning for back pain that you’ve had for 4 weeks but you just now call.

@Noriega

What was your probation period like?

I’m on probation at a new city I started with. Last for a year. I’m solid mentally so far.
You on a big city or suburbs?

My probation was kind of strict, 12 months

10:30 was my bed time, had to be the first one up at 6am.

7am to 10pm probationer is expected to be on their feet, cleaning…studying..training…helping cook, station maintenance etc. Jumping in on every call, carrying all the equipment, staying busy while everyone else is chilling

We had monthly tests, learning modules, had to give presentations on tools, engine operations, department procedures etc.

Never got hazed or no shyt like that. Some of my other classmates at different stations had more traditional old school crews so they had varying probationary experiences

@tyfireman15 similar for you?

Yea my probation wasn’t that strict. I was at a slow house so I was with a bunch of old timers who were kind of half out the door. I still did the same shyt as described (rig inventory, cleaning, helping the cook, washing dishes, daily house work, etc) Also did my candidate drills and had guys who was willing to “hey kid come here let me show you this” But yea after lunch guys were like don’t bother me it’s nap time. And I was just chill. I know some guys I graduated with who were at dikk houses were they had to sit in the fukking joker tower pretty much all down time. Even during dinner. Or had to tank up on every fire run even if it’s a BS residential auto alarm

Yeah my lieutenant was retiring he didn’t give a fukk. My first day he was like “Fires? Stay on my hip at all times and do exactly as I say”’. By 1pm he was already knocked out in his office. He wasn’t very well respected around the dept.

Now my captain, on the truck, highly respected as he was at busier stations and earned a good rep from it. He was more hands on. I remember I came in at 7:03 once and got lit up :mjcry:

He was very “by the book” too. Had a few fires with him where I felt we could’ve been more aggressive but :yeshrug:

Why are 90 % of fire captains severely obese with 60% body fat ?

Why dont they force these fat old guys to retire,what good are they outside of sitting a desk collecting a pension ?

I look at some of these slobs and dont believe for a second they passed the physicals/tests...

Yea is was pretty much the same thing. Up before everybody to make coffee, raise the flag, even if you had a sucky night. First one in on EMS called, staying close to your officier on other calls. Constantly training. I was fortunate to never been hazed. I had a lot other cats who just wanted to do their job and transfer to a slower station. I did not have a lot of jokesters on my crews early on (Thank god)

I’m in the burbs now and everything you listed is pretty much the same for me. It’s kind of the same experience as when in the academy. I have to give a PowerPoint presentation on our air packs coming up soon.

One great thing about the station I’m at is we’re non transport :banderas:

Two things. They don’t have a physical agility test in place. And they know their city /county not going to force them to do anything (basically they know the politics or their city/county)
