Having been both at super busy and slow stations, it makes you wonder is it worth it to take the physical & mental strain.
My previous station, a 20 run day on the engine was normal. I remember it was a stretch in the summer, every single shift we would get demolished at night. Came home with headaches, eyes hurting, irritable etc and slept most of my off days away. Gained weight cuz I was too tired to hit the gym.
The only plus was I had a fun crew of mostly young FFs my age and we went to a decent amount of fires.
Current station. A 10 run day is a busy day, not normal. Barely go to fires but it is nice to go home and not be dead tired

Sucks seeing all the senior guys do one thing and tell you something else. Also so many different people telling you how to do one thing one way and someone else telling you to do it another….then getting chewed out and questioned for it
Working all day busting my ass while the senior guys sit around watching tv and on their phones

Yeah it sucks. Most of my seniors were chill but I had one that was always on bullshyt with me. Lazy and big headed cuz he was at a busy truck company for years.Probation kicking my ass but I’m hanging in there

after my probationary period was over I started calling him out on it. Others noticed too so they never paid much attention to him when he started bytching

sidenote, I got flamed earlier for going on a smoke alarm call. Went on the truck and forgot to grab my mask from the engine. LT fired me up and was nice after joking around
