yes i played the game and you're right, the game being linear was one of the biggest issues about it. what i was trying to say was that if a lot of the other stuff was good then ppl wouldn't care about it being linear. FF13 had terrible dialogue, bland characters, especially lightning who's the main character, a bad summon system and a weird story. all of the best FF games have some linear game play but ppl still love it.

All of the best FF games do NOT have linear gameplay. What the hell are you talking about?

yes they do. 7 and 9 had linear game play to begin with and then more open at the end. 7 was linear until you got out of midgar and 9 has a lot of the character stories that were linear as well.

Midgar isn't even 1/4 of FF7, the game is mostly open world and there's a bunch of side missions in it. FF9 is good but it's not one of the best FFs in my opinion. It's not touching FF6, 12 or 4, and all of those games are not linear except 4.

Again you are looking at it from an old model. 12 was zoned but basically you could go where you wanted barring getting killed, I discovered Balfonhiem, Jahara, The Nechrol of Nabudis and the Nabreaus Deadlands before the game sent me there. Games were linear because of data limitations mostly. The entire 1st disk of FF8 (which is a personal favorite and was much more linear than 7 ever was) were linear because it were full of FMV, dialouge and what not. The vast majority of Post FF 10 there was no need to create games like that becuase you could fit so much into discs after that. That's part of why having 13 be so linear for literally 80% of the game was so stupid, it was poor design. FF 7 on the other hand throws you into open world right after you escape Shinra which I think is like only 4 hours into the game.

FF 6 is probably the BEST of any final fantasy and its open world after like the first hour (behind some story gates, but you get me.) With this you can pull in the people who either

1. Are casuals and want the most game they can get from jump.
2. Fans of the series who will appreciate the openess of the game.
3. People new to the series who need to have the most time they can to explore the mechanics and the structure without being force to fight story gated bosses to progress.

For a game that has this much money behind it, that could ruin the company if it fails, this is a smart DESIGN choice.

i said have some linear game play so technically i am right:pachaha:

i disagree with this. i can understand ppl putting 6 above 9 because it was good, but i'm putting 9 over 4 and 6. 9 had a lot of great stories going on at the same time and the switching back and forth with characters made it really unique and fun for me. it's my 2nd favorite behind 7 and i haven't played 12 so i can't speak on it.

I think, no I HOPE Tabata directed a classic. Reading this interview makes me feel like this game will at least be on the same level as the old FF games as far as quality goes.
FFVI influence

Replaying VI and other games in the series reaffirmed to Nomura and Tabata that they should focus on creating a story that felt personal and had a strong emotional resonance. “It wasn’t that we played VI and decided that it was the inspiration behind XV,” Tabata clarifies. “The idea of having that very human, very emotional tale was already decided, but I think there may have been some influence there in more of an indirect sense. From seeing VI, I got to understand the classic Final Fantasy feel. From the games previous to VII that emotional core was really what Final Fantasy was about.”

FF XIII Reaction

As well as the technological struggles of a new console generation and attempting to create an entirely new type of Final Fantasy, the team faced other obstacles. After the largely negative reaction to Final Fantasy XIII, the team was all too aware of the pressure to win back fans. With Nomura being moved to Kingdom Hearts III in 2014, the last two years have seen Tabata step up as director and leader. Tabata is hesitant, initially towing the party line and defending XIII, but then he replies...

“A lot of the staff on the XV project also worked on XIII as well. While there were arguably a lot of fans for FF XIII too, there were clearly those bits that people were a bit negative about and treated very harshly.

“So in some ways I think those [devs] obviously did think, in their own way, that ‘Yes, with this development we have to turn that around’ and ‘We have to learn from that and work out what we did wrong’. There was probably that element for them.”

So they know FFXIII was trash and nobody liked hallway simulators with decent graphics.

If the magic and limit breaks aren't compensating for summons it will be trash

On another topic, how the soundtrack sounding like so far to y'all?

The boss battle theme in the plat demo was ight.

The XIII boss battle theme was :ohlawd:

A good boss battle music will keep you on the edge of your seat until that HP goes to 0. Dull music can really make a boss fight :russell:
