His ego on heavens gate was his undoing. By the time he made his final films he was a different director. Deflated and forgotten.
yup
that was a sad turn of events
i mean, to think, dude had started out a good director with thunderbolt and lightfoot after doing some commercials
and actually, he did good with thunderbolt and lightfoot considering it was a film that got picked up by eastwood and his movie production company
then cimino hits it out the park with the deer hunter and lands amongst the stars with that
all but to lose it the very next film
i've watched heaven's gate and one of the biggest takeaways from it imo is the lack of a coherent script.
he didn't do a great job of telling the story of the johnson wars; it was confusing to follow a long when you didn't really know who was who at first
but yeah, he was.
shyt, his desperate hours remake has no signs of him either, outside of the mountains of utah again
the sicilian was another one
that movie felt like one of those d list films that would come on pbs randomly on a saturday afteroon in the 90's, almost like a tv like film
but i read how he ran into some issues with that film and how a lot of what he filmed got cut and bunch of other stuff
he ended up in court over the disagreement he had with the producers
