It's not even a buyout. It's really a phased retirement. If it's legit, keyword if, they'll get their regular pay check without doing any work until September 30
I don't know why all of a sudden we should believe this administration. If anything they just offered it to say some shyt like, "these people aren't comitted" and look to fire them. I don't think Musk/Trump should be getting the benefit of the doubt at this point. They're going to find a way to screw these people.

I believe they thought working from home would be the golden ticket

They thought they'd trick us into wfh, then boom! Gotcha bytch and fire us the next day

They failed to realize most of us were hybrid not remote

Remote workers are the ones who would slightly benefit from the phased retirement

Do I want to go downtown 5 days a week, no. Will I, yes lol

Are people going to actually receive the buyout? I read that some people that accepted the buyout were fired.
I've heard all kinds of weird stuff about the buyout too, including they may not even get the full 8 months. Then I heard that some took the buyout, and are happy. But again, no one really knows if they're gonna get the full 8 months. Although I haven't searched, I have yet heard or read about anybody who took the buyout say how it went, straight from their own mouths. I do have that buddy I was talking about in my last post, who still have a few years left on his mortgage. He also works for the VA btw, so I know he have some serious insight. But he's been having some very, very tough times, and I mean news that's even worse than Project 2025...but I won't go into that. Anyway, he's the type that wouldn't want me to know if he was one of the VA employees negatively affect by all this. His job always seemed so invincible working for the VA, compared to other federal government workers. Plus he was essential. But that don't seem to matter anymore.

As far as how that buyout is really going for those who took it, your guess is as good as mine. I'm down here in Atlanta, and I've slowly but surely lost touch with almost all my old government co-workers. On that note, I heard a lot of jobs at my old agency are on the chopping block as well. I've never seen that agency get threatened like this before. I remember this one younger cat who was very close to me. He will have 30 years this August. He came in as an intern with me. I hope he makes the cut. If they include his two summer jobs he had with me, when he was a part time federal guard, he may have 30 by April. But the young cats who came in a few years behind him, and accumulated like 20 - 28 years, I can only hope for the best. Then I remember this one White dude, who came in a year or two behind us as a contractor, then came in the government a grade above me. He sure changed up on me, after I had shown him the ropes when he was a contractor. Not once did I ever talk down to him the whole time he was a contractor. Sometimes I think that mess is embedded in their DNA when it comes to us, no matter how cool they seem to be on the outside. He was married, and had recently invested in the TSP. I remember he told me in this arrogant way, "I sleep well at night, knowing my money is safe". That was the first time I ever heard somebody use the term, "I sleep well at night", etc... I don't hear too many White people saying that anymore, especially since we've had 2008, 2020, and now 2025. Like they say, "Never count your chickens before they hatch".

I got the 7 years left before early retirement. I'm fairly safe. I have 26 years in, vet, I'm permanent and have great evaluations. I feel for some of my coworkers who may be sent home at the end of the week. It will cripple our mission if we lose them. I'm in DOD so all that BS they were talking is cap. Failure on so many levels with this administration.

the "buyout" is a scam...is a deferred resignation...and is exactly what the name intend...your resignation is until sept 30...this benefit people that work remote and do not want to move. Anyways, is a scam b/c congress have to work on another CR in march and those people that resigned may be asses out when the govt. closes and if they finally agreed on a CR would that include them?

Yeah I've read a few articles about vets that thought they were untouchable getting cut.

If you like your job a lot, and the government gets back to normal, maybe you should stay until 62, and get that 1.1 percent multiplier, instead of the 1.0 percent. That's equal to a 10% raise for the rest of your life. However, a lot of people don't realize this, and take the Special Retirement Supplement (SRS) instead, to fill in the gap between 56 and 62. For a while many feds didn't even know the SRS even existed.

I turned my brother's best friend on to the SRS back in 2015. He was around 58. The next thing I knew, he retired and moved to Africa. I didn't know at the time that he would have came out better in the long run, if he waited until he was 62, and got that 1.1 percent multiplier. He's close to 70 now. The last time I spoke to him, it sounded like he was sorta pissed at me.

I'm good. Only reason I didn't take VERA was no social security supplemental. I'm tired of working although I love my job. Just ready to be free to just enjoy life doing whatever I want. TSP kicks in at 62 so that will add to retirement. I'm comfortable. 5 extra years to enjoy life stress free is priceless.

24 years in with 10 years left until my MRA. 15 until 62.

They are coming for our benefits next. The FERS supplemental I feel might be fiest on the chopping block.

Im DoD as well but don't think we're safe from anything.

Anyone hear anything about the IRS? ONE of my boys switched to a new position that put him on a three year probation period so he shook right now. But he had already been with them in the other department for a year so he confused
Maybe others can chime in but typically if you’re hired internally wouldn’t you skip a new probation period? Might just be my agency tho
