Y'all that coworker I just mentioned just called me to tell me she was terminated. I knew this was going to happen but tried to remain hopeful, calm and reassuring for her

This broke my heart. She moved to DC from Dallas last year for the job. She's very bright, hardworking and a sweetheart

The only semblance of a bright spot is she was still living with her family she has here and doesn't have any major bills

Now I'm like what do I say to her? Nothing will make her feel better

This not only effects federal employees

This effects businesses all over

Just imagine u have a business in a downtown area which has a ton of federal employees working in the area,, they loss of job will effect you’re foot traffic in your business. Which means u have to cut staff increase prices to try to keep your business afloat
I say this as no attack to you or your post but fukk them businesses. They were the main ones begging the WH (this admin and the last) to make folks RTO. COVID already did what your post is saying and those businesses aren't coming back. There's literally no reason for everyone to go back in office.

I'm more concerned for my coworker who is fresh in the government. Her probationary period ends the first week of April. I hope she makes it

Musk was in our building last week
There's a guy who's been in his same office space since he started working at my agency who they forced to move to a shared space so DOGE could have working/hoteling space. fukk these people.

terminated for what?
Trump & Elon are terminating every probationary federal employee.
In some cases, employees with years of experience that have recently moved into a new role and were probationary for 1 year are getting terminated.
Some of them are Veterans too.

So much for "America first" and putting the American worker first, stuff that Trump conservatives and Magas ate up.

In the last few weeks the American Federal worker has become public enemy #1 and part of the "deep state."

Poor performance seems to be what they're telling all the probationary people. It's bs

Our directors and team love her and the two other employees who received emails

I told her to file for unemployment today. Get the ball rolling early

Yup, I saw on reddit one lady had been a fed for 19 years. Switched agencies/positions that came with a probationary period, now she's fired

It's not "poor performance," that's what the pro-Trump camp is running with, Elon has also thrown this out there and has Twitter running with it.

Some of these people have had superb evaluations over the last several years, so it can't be "poor performance."

In order to evaluate, document, and determine "poor performance" you need audits and supervisors, these bozos ain't doing on damn audits.

In fact, there's no one qualified in DOGE to do any of the things they're doing.

This administration is doing nothing but adding to the unemployment numbers, this admin is already failing three weeks in.

It's because even as a probationary Federal worker you can't be fired without cause. There needs to be a performance or conduct issue. This could potentially affect about 200k Federal workers, a number so large I believe Trump and his cronies would need to go to Congress to seek a reduction in force to mass fire without cause. To avoid this "inconvenience" they are all being fired for cause (performance) which might tie up UI claims. I worked for the Government at one point and I do remember that initial two year probation but I didn't know you were put on another long term probation if you got a promotion. Hopefully the Dems rework the probation rules and term length during their inevitable rebuild of the civil service.
