Puff Daddy closest thing to Quincy in hip hop IMO

I actually don’t think this a bad nomination, but I’m still unsure exactly what Diddy did.

People are harping on the fact that Quincy Jones played a lot of instruments, but I don’t see why the “Quincy Jones of Hip Hop” would need to play a lot of instruments. The fact that Quincy Jones played a lot of instruments isn’t why we have him on this pedestal. It’s all the great music he helped produce. Sure playing all those instruments likely helped him make all that great music, but if he didn’t and still made all that great music, would we still not have him on this pedestal?


Being able to play instruments was more important to making the great music of his day than it is to making great hip hop music. So I don’t see why it would be required that the “Quincy Jones of hip hop” need play many instruments.

Fat Joe is a legend but he is completely off base on this. This is why I say just because someone is in the field of their profession doesn't make them an expert and goes for musicians, athletes, anyone.

Dr Dre and DJ Quik are way more apt comparisons hell maybe add in RZA, Premo, Madlib but not Khaled.

Again, all that stuff is just back drop...it’s the resultant music that matters. If had all those skills but failed to produce great music, we wouldn’t be putting him on a pedestal today. If he produced the great music without officially having those skills we’d still be praising him.

Yeah I wasn’t thinking about the instrument aspect of it. I was thinking more so bringing in a lot of different elements and putting it together
