And then what? What's next the next guy?
Will they start getting on the train for their sub 15$ wages?
I want to know what you thing bro.

I think there has to be a middle ground as to what these people get paid. They cannot demand too much, but employers must realize this is new york and the living costs are much more expensive then other places.

Shouldn't their employers recognize that?

this thread is ignorant. maybe you should work @ a fast food restaurant and then you'll see how easy it is. it's basically slavery. you work long hours, get paid squat, and deal with a lot of bullshyt for that check only to basically make little to nothing getting by. what's worst off is you try to get a job elsewhere and folks downplay the work you did @ that job like it's nothing. :damn: so here you are, getting paid chump change, you might get a 15 cent raise 6 months at a time, basically doing a lot of jobs, getting stressed out and etc and then folks expect you to be smiling and being happy about your job. folks are acting like these are high school jobs. :laff: this shows you how out of touch folks are. :lolbron: there's college students, grown ass people with families, and etc working @ places like those. i never realized how bad shyt was when my former manager actually told me that the higher ups were upset @ the fact that the average wage per hour at our store was 8 dollars and the other stores were making 6 to 7 dollars an hour. :damn: that was like wow. these folks are bytching about paying more and yet these guys are living rich. :laff:

consumerism have you guys thinking backwards and not seeing the bigger picture. it's all gravy when you're ordering the food but it's a different story when you're on the other side of the register.

you know something is terribly wrong when you try to do things the right way such as going to get a job or two jobs killing yourself that doesn't pay shyt instead of drug dealing or doing something illegal to make a living and you still don't have enough to pay your bills and basic necessities. you have to apply for food stamps and have to get roommates and etc in order to eat. top that off with the fact that employers are fronting, bullshytting around, saying that you're not qualified, making it hard and damn near impossible for you to get a decent job. basically being the working poor and you have the audacity to tell folks to smile and act like everything is okay because they deserve that shyt. they didn't work hard enough. :damn: exactly, what's wrong with this country. i challenge you to actually work at a fast food spot for 2 years and survive off of it.

The contempt for poor people in this thread is disturbing. :smh:

There are about four unemployed people for every job opening - everybody can't just leave and get a better job. It's economically impossible. Even if everybody had a masters degree, there would just be a bunch of people with masters degrees working fast food and retail. Somebody has to be at the bottom and personally I don't see whats so abhorrent about treating them fairly.

How does the saying go? A society should be judged by how it treats its weakest members. :usure:

do not let HHL4E back on the higher learning podcast.

:stopitslime:

I essentially kick started the podcast, so who the fukk are you to state who shouldn't be on or off the podcast?

Secondly, the only thing I would be for would be an increase to the minimum wage across the board to say 9-10 dollars. But sympathizing with some union every time they begin screaming for a higher wage is a recipe for disaster. Hell, back in the union heyday of Detroit grass cutters and lawn mowers were getting nearly $60 an hour. Everyone thought that it was just and fair and awesome....until GM nearly went under. Eventually they finally agreed to a paycut.

People are greedy and will push their luck as far as they can take it. Not realizing this is part of the reason many feel its "just" to pay workers whatever they demand. Unfortunately sound economics doesn't agree.

Given all the money big fast food chains make in NY, it's certainly realistic for workers to get 15$/hr(hell 12$/hr) and the companies will still post great profits. Threads like this, show that we're living to work and this rat race is nonsense. It'd be wise if you make decent money(say you make 35k off taxes, it cost you 28k to live comfortably) to start living below your means(get a decent 5-7k car instead of 30k+ fly car, and get a decent apartment instead of the fly apartment), save up 200k and retire in South America/South East Asia/Africa and live comfortably for the rest of your life. What's the point of living, if you can't actually live?

Why did you choose to work three jobs? Were you being underpaid? Living beyond on your means? Fascinating.

I chose to work three to make up for the loss of income after I made her leave her job when she was about 3 months along. She miscarried. The End.

SMH @ these corporate execs having bonuses out the ass but scared of paying people $5 more per hour. $8 in NY? Where do they live? :wtf:

Never underestimate corporate greed.

Paying employees $13/hr vs. $8/hr is still a drop in the bucket. Its disgusting.

Lots of experience at a multitude of occupations.

I understand where you're coming from, but ultimately, your evidence is purely anecdotal, even if you have had more experience than the average person. I'm not sure what your background is, but I have met many honest, hardworking people who have worked 3 jobs at once and still have not "made it" for a number of reasons, none of which involve laziness or poor choices. What we really need are some stats up in this thread.

I worked fast food and it was horrible(with a college degree mind you), they deserve so much more than what they get. I'm not shocked that people are stupid enough to gety mad at them for wanting more. The companies can afford to do better but they wont.
