Has to be. They should have just rode out the season with him as QB as now they have no leverage whatsoever and are going to have to eat the bread wherever else he goes and get nothing in return.

They should have never signed him. You draft Penix. THEN you sign a Teddy Bridgewater-ish type QB that won't lose games but also doesn't cost too much $$$. The kind of experienced vet that is comfortable being #2 but can step in as #1.

Let Penix sit and learn from the vet his first year and then give him a full offseason and training camp to show he's ready.

Signing an aging QB for that kind of money is dumb unless you’re getting Tom Brady and have a team ready to win now.

And where exactly are those QBs supposed to come from considering that other teams are looking for them themselves?

It was going to be a lose-lose situation regardless as there was always going to be pressure for Penix to start at some point based on his draft position.
