By drafting Penix from the jump and benching him and pissing him off in the process, they're essentially at the mercy of whatever Cousins says. I wouldn't blame him in the slightest if he didn't do them a favor by helping them out.

The situation locally became untenable to keep playing Kirk, he was that bad. In other words to keep our playoff hopes alive they couldn’t keep playing him, he’s been that bad and looks physically diminished
The way the Falcons have handled this QB situation from the moment they signed Kirk and then drafted Penix is all time franchise malpractice
It doesn't have to be that salary though is my point.
The Falcons could have gotten a team to potentially eat some of the bread and help them out in the process.
Now they're going to essentially be paying his contract, while the next team gets him for free a la Russ.

Cousins isn't waving that no trade clause, not sure the return would even be worth the hassle for Atlanta if someone did want to acquire him at his lowest value.
