Something that no one mentioned yet is that his heat went to high level after the fans found out that Lita left Matt for Edge in real life in 2005.

And he wasn't Cena or Orton who got injured at times and fans were already getting bored of.

Pretty much (6 years to be exact) HHH was traded to SD in 04, but it was an instant trade afterwards, I think HHH for Booker T and The Dudleys (or maybe even those 3 and RVD). So basically, HHH was on Raw from late 02 to the middle of 08 he was on Raw, while Edge alternated for what felt like every single year. It was clearly a concerted effort to keep them away from each for some reason for them never to face off til 2008.
