They gave him a lot of reigns in a short time. This was back when the world championships were being passed around like a prostitute. In 2009, he won the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. This was after he had lost it at Armageddon after holding it for less than a month. Then he lost it at No Way Out, won the World Heavyweight Championship that same night, lost it at WrestleMania, then won it back at Backlash and held it for less than two months. :mjlol:

I think there were only two title reigns he had that lasted over two months (he won the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon in 2007 and then dropped it at WrestleMania; won the WHC at TLC in 2010 and dropped it when he retired).
Even that run was 2 separate title runs :mjlol: They ran that weird angle where the Spear was banned or whatever during his feud with Ziggler, he lost the title to Dolph on a Smackdown because of that just to win it back by the end of the night :dead:

shyt, I forgot about that. :russ:Man, if there's one thing, just one thing I'll give WWE credit for these days, it's that wrestlers are allowed to have long title reigns. :dead:

They divided the roster in half after the Attitude Era and set up World Titles for both brands. That inflated the number of reigns for everyone between 02 and 2013 like everyone said.

Something that no one mentioned yet is that his heat went to high level after the fans found out that Lita left Matt for Edge in real life in 2005.

Because he was the top heel on SmackDown and fukking Vickie Guerrero.
The Edge/Taker/Batista feud is where they hot potatoed the title a lot.

Also Edge was drawing during his first WWE title reign. His segments were drawing 5.0's after the sex celebration. He's technically the most watched "WWE" Champion of all time.
They fukked up not keeping the title on him

I like Edge but it will never make sense to me how he had double digit reigns. Especially since, outside of the *maybe* The Rated R Superstar run, he was never actually THE guy. There was always someone else (ex. Cena) in that spot.

And while this isn't exclusively an Edge issue, there's an argument to be made that these short, non factor title reigns weaken a wrestler's legacy and damage the prestige of the title. Like, how much it matter if someone has 10,11,12,13 title reigns if over half of them are completely forgettable or only last a week or two?

He got a heel run as a single performer where he wasn't just acting like a high school jock type heel like he was when him and Christian were heels as a tag team. He knocked it out the park

That wasn't how his initial turn started though. He returned from injury as a super AGGRESSIVE face going after Orton and Evolution but the crowd wasn't buying it so he turned heel and turned up the UNHINGED mannerisms to 11 and people still weren't buying it. Then Matt Hardy revealed Edge fukked Lita behind his back and the fans bought into that and Edge made a career of it.

To a person who stopped watching after the Attitude era, it would be much easier explaining Edge's title reigns than JBL's. At least Edge was a popular mid-carder during the Attitude era.
Yeah that was even more shocking probably, but I caught some of JBL and saw how he had evolved into that JR Ewing-type character. He seemed to have a character makeover.

I was wondering what if anything changed with Edge.
