I never thought he was anything special. He seemed like a bootleg Shawn Michaels or something and I thought it was stupid that his finisher was a spear and he was a lanky 220 something lbs. I thought even the IC push was premature.

Did he greatly improve as a draw and a wrestling character? I know there's something about him fukking Lita in real life and they incorporated it into story. Was a lot of it the heat off that?

He was probably the biggest beneficiary of the brand split. He was a good talker, had a good character, and was a decent worker. But without the brand split he would have probably been a two or three time World Champion.

Also, a lot of his reigns were transitional. He would have the belt for a few weeks and then drop it. He very rarely had really long runs as champ. He was believable enough to take the belt off of the top guys, but he wasn’t big enough to be “the man”.

You thought you knew him...…….

Might be a nominee for reply of the year :laff:

But to answer the OP's question...

Basically Edge was "HHH 1999" around late 2005. Lita was his "Stephanie McMahon" and he cashed in the very first MITB briefcase on long time WWE champion, John Cena, to a historically big WWE moment

All the other title reigns were basically trash as he became the top boring heel on SD for half a decade and got struggle reigns.

Edge overrated

They gave him a lot of reigns in a short time. This was back when the world championships were being passed around like a prostitute. In 2009, he won the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. This was after he had lost it at Armageddon after holding it for less than a month. Then he lost it at No Way Out, won the World Heavyweight Championship that same night, lost it at WrestleMania, then won it back at Backlash and held it for less than two months. :mjlol:

I think there were only two title reigns he had that lasted over two months (he won the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon in 2007 and then dropped it at WrestleMania; won the WHC at TLC in 2010 and dropped it when he retired).

Was just re-listening to the Christian episode on Something to Wrestle and it seems Vince thought Edge was going to be a star and pushed him for that reason

Funnily enough he didnt think much of Christian and even thought he was boring.

I always felt like Christian was the better wrestler and more entertaining

Probably the best post in here about Edge in a nutshell. The Edge hate on here is weird, but he 100% would not have had as many titles as he had without the brand split. Orton wouldn’t have either.
