I liked it but not as much as everyone else.
I like a lot of the ideas in it though
What I noticed about Her is that depending on the environment you watched it on it was a drastically different movie. The first time I watched it alone and thought it was fukking incredible (somewhat profound/deep), the second time I went to the theater and watched it with my girlfriend at the time and one of my homeys, it was like a comedy with some really awkward moments, I didn't like it nearly as much in that situation as the first when I just watched it solo dolo with a blunt in hand.

How was that a necessary step? If Nathan wanted her to escape, why would he stop her? Why would Nathan program her with the ability to kill him if she deemed it necessary to complete her objective? Idk breh I'm not buying that she wasn't conscious
You think a robot was conscious? OK. Did she have soul to?

Nathan wants it to try to escape via the experiment with Caleb, but Nathan makes a mistake, he does not factor in his observable motivations/behaviors/resources/physical presence as an opportunity for the robot.

The robot does observe and use all available to it to try to escape not just Caleb, hence the power outages.

Nathan had no clue the robot could kill anyone including him.

The robot to insure escape Nathan has to be neutralized. The best way to end any possibility of action on his part is to kill him.

So I was watching this with a friend of mine and we got into a discussion about Ava's consciousness and whether she was a sentient being or not, very similar to conversations they've had about Data on Star Trek. And it was at that point I realized I really like this movie. Like really really like it. Isaac was dope as was the young Weasley (Domhald Gleeson). I loved the mood and the atmosphere and how Nathan, from the very jump, was oft putting and to me, it seemed like he was putting on a facade from jump ("Dude!"), which set the tone where there's an uneasiness between Caleb and Nathan and between the viewer and the movie overall.

Loved the scene between the two of them where they're discussing Ava's sexuality and whether Caleb chose to be straight or not, which I also felt reflected in Ava (whether by nature or nurture) and how she became who she was. She observed, she learned, and I felt like her nature and her nurture determined who she was and the choices she made. I'm really not a fan of the last choice she made though; wasn't cool at all:damn:

I think she was conscious. Even if she was conniving and manipulating, she was sentient enough to know what she was doing and have a plan. In order to be great AI, she has to be sentient.

Myself
Dope movie.

Couple scenes that stood out to me that I didn't see in this thread:

The way Nathan handled Jasmine when Caleb is watching Nathan's personal recordings:mjcry:
The mirror scene with Caleb:huhldup:

Overall I really enjoyed and will watch it again very soon
