Fresh broccoli?
I’m assuming fresh.

You ever buy the frozen broccoli? You try to cook it and it’s a sad, soggy mess.

:scusthov:
Yea fresh, and wash it before you do all that. I've personally never brought and tried to cook frozen broccoli, so I'll take your word for it.

The biggest key for me when i was dropping weight was cutting out liquid sugar

Lemonade and Beer used to kill me, now i have those once in a blue moon.
Alcohol is the one thing that most people refuse to cut back on.

I have a lot of friends who won’t give up drinking on the weekends. I understand to a point. You have to enjoy life. But there’s ways to do things.

get that “I eat for function and not for taste” mentality.

I eat the same foods everyday to the point where it’s just routine. Cheat day on Sunday. fukk a cheat meal, I take the whole day.
Until/unless I get too old/inactive where good food is worse for me than taking care of myself all around is good for me…. fukk. THAT.

Everything in moderation, but I was the worst when I was eating chicken and broccoli damn near every meal :heh: Healthy =\= bland

A lot of men don't experiment enough with meals. It's the best way to learn flavor and to have the richest tasting food. Yes, flavorful food is often very healthy. It's essential to have a lot of different spices in your pantry. You can replace your fresh herbs(thyme, rosemary, basil, bay leaf) every couple of weeks.

Fresh wild caught seafood. Salmon, Tuna mainly. Chicken thighs and ground beef can make so many different meals if you're creative.

Maybe it's a remnant of how I grew up but I still appreciate the canned stuff. Tuna, Salmon, Calamari. Even Chicken. You can make some good meals out of those if you're feeling lazy. Salmon croquettes, chicken salad, tuna burger, a quick seared calamari stir fry. But I would say definitely fresh is just better tasting.

Grains. I like Quinoa. Legumes like lentils are great to store. I used to think Quinoa was trash because it was bland but a simple onion ans garlic sauteed in a pot. Quinoa toasted and then use whatever stock you like or if not, water and season it with some of your favorite spices(garlic, onion, mushroom powder, etc).

Definitely gotta have eggs

Vegetables. spinach, peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic. Sweet potatoes.

Mushrooms. I've made many interesting dishes with all different kinds. Oysters and King Oysters. You can stir fry em. Make em like fried chicken. Grill em.

Peanuts, almonds.

Any frozen fruits for smoothies. Strawberries, pineapple, blueberry. Love blackberries.

I love this post because you went into details and gave some good info.

But you’ll never convince me that quinoa doesn’t belong in the trash.

Here’s the thing.
Quinoa is more expensive than brown rice. Tastes worse than brown rice. Is more complicated to cook than brown rice.

So why would anyone ever eat quinoa over brown rice?

This is the one for me. Oatmeal, chicken, brown rice, etc. only differ if I go out with a girl or a friend to eat. Pretty much guarantees gym gains.

Food is the cheapest form of therapy. It's hard to change habits regarding food. I've just removed one food/condiment from my diet every year since my mid-twenties. I'm not uber healthy with my diet, but I've gotten rid of butter, sugar, juice, pork, soda, trying my hand at bread...but it's tough.

It is more expensive than rice but it's worth it. Much more nutritious than any rice. The most important. But try that little "recipe" I suggested. But then add this as your stock.

Butter is the unhealthy ingredient that's hardest for me to let go...

For drinks I prefer unsweetened tea and haven't had a soda in 15 yrs. Black coffee only nothing added.

Whichever fruit was on sale for that week and an omelette for breakfast everyday.

Salad for lunch and I always add a few servings of beans.

Then finally a serving of juicy meat for dinner with rice on the side.

Fruit is my go to late night snack. Or even some stovetop popcorn. If I cook it myself I know it's healthier!

I hate cooking so I stick with shyt that's easy.

I have a rice cooker, air fryer for my chicken breast, and a pot to cook ground turkey.

I try not to snack at all. Meaning I make sure to have full meals.

Basmati Rice
Black beans
Black eyed peas
Grond Turkey
Chicken
Salmon
Apples
Bananas
Variety of Veggies

The food I eat pretty much every day is rice, ground turkey and black beans.

I cook in bulk and use a measuring cup to portion out my meals.

I only drink water and unsweetened tea with lemon juice and apple cider vinegar.

Sidenote: How do ya'll deal with not sounding rude when someone offers you food? I've been in that situation too many times when someone cooks something, I turn it down and they are offended.
Dude just accept it, say you're going to take it home for dinner, and then throw it out.

Great thread :ehh:

For those who want to delve deeper into diet/intestinal health, NHK had a great documentary on that in their The Body series:

Recipes(forgive the unintended), not binary choices
