lol@the poster's friend who majors in pottery

It took me nine years of enrollment before I got my AS and BS in IT. $60+ K in debt with 10 years to pay off my biggest loan.

But looking at those plaques on my wall, and knowing I have more employment opportunities with those instead of without them, if I had to do it all over again I would. Better that than giving up and having a dead-end low-paying job with no come-up in site.

Most Microsoft Certs aren't that hard, pick up a couple of books off amazon and you should be straight....dont be fooled into one of those Microsoft trainning classes and be kicking out $2G for 3 weeks of training..

:(

Hell, I didn't even know they offered classes but I wouldn't pay 2gs for something I could learn from a book. I'm trying to not spend any extra money. I commuted from home to college one quarter, even though it took about 2 hours to go back and forth, I saved a lot of money. I don't know how people can graduate from undergrad with over $50 k in debt.

the point of college is to get specified knowledge, ie Computer Science, Pharmacy, Engineering, Chemistry etc.

Not generic shyt like Psychology or Business.. I thought it was common sense that economics>business

I've been thinking about saying fukk it and applying for all the student loans I can get to get myself towards a degree in computer science or software engineering. I decided after HS to try to make it my way and that shyt failed miserably. The pattern in this thread is: apply yourself and study something in demand, get paper. fukk around or get a general degree, eh....

I want the paper, fukk grinding at the bottom. :manny:

There's nothing wrong with liberal arts majors, sociology majors, and english majors if you use it right but you must realize that you not gonna be swimming in job offers when you come out, you gonna have to go to grad school most likely

Because these majors are considered easier you gonna have less slack than someone who is a physics major so you gonna have to have a gpa around 3.5 at least

Just don't go off to so some expensive college and acquire debt out the ass to be a high school teacher

What minimum GPA should I have in accounting coming out of LSU ..3.0 ? 2.8 ?

im going to be coming out of UNO in 2 years with somewhere between a 2.5 and a 3.0. 3.0 is going to help you.

i kinda sorta got city and state plugs via my family so i MIGHT be alright.

Europe
those dirty european socialist countries allow their citizens to go to college for free, many of them even pay their citizens to go to college. Could you imagine being paid to go to college? :win:

Do you know how competitive the decent European colleges are? Believe me if you had the grades to make it into one of those good free schools then you damn sure had the grades to earn an academic scholarship in the states. Its not just pass through high school with a C and then go to college for free.

Why are y'all shiitting on business. I'm getting a degree in business with a concentration in Information Systems. Did I make a bad choice?

Bruh... you'll be alright as long as you have at least a little bit of experience, and less experience if you go to a really good school. Information Systems is in demand right now...

I got a degree in the same exact thing and went Fayetteville State University (exactly). Graduated with a 3.3 GPA (Could have been better, but I wasn't really trying at first, but my mom said if I graduate with honors she'd get me a car :krs:)

When I first graduated (Winter 09) I couldn't really find anything cause I didn't have any experience. I ended up taking a tech support job for Apple at a call center (Worst 9 months of my life) :noah:. After about 6 months of working there I started getting calls from other companies to interview.... quit after nine months :pacspit:, moved to atlanta a couple months later, and got offered a job within a week.

Northrup Grumman, Consolidated Container Company, GE, and the company I work for now (also fortune 500), etc...

As long as you have 3.0+ and a little work experience... you're good with information systems.

true story. as far as career prospects college did jack for me. But if i had the chance to do it all over, i would. Why? Because the experience developed and matured me as a man:jawalrus:. It also opened my eyes to much outside of my hometown, and living out on my own.

Had I not went, I wouldve been that 17 year old ignorant punk out of high school.

The experience was priceless, the education and promises were worthless:manny:

cosign. word for word.

I do consulting for an e-Sourcing firm in San Fran... Not really a economics job but it incorporates business development, problem solving, accounting, and finance etc...

I agree though man, thinking longterm is the most important shyt. Im trying to get a job with a tech start up out here... If I can find an establishment with less then 30 employees in the green stages and I can get on board when the shyt pops:smugdraper:

I was desperate for work coming out of school so I took the first opportunity I had and now i'm basically stuck at the 70-80k Job ceiling until I can make moves.
