The most played games on PlayStation are games also available on PC and other platforms. That doesn't harm their sales. People have a platform preference and availability isn't going to change it.

There isn't going to be this huge exodus on the platform when the most played games are available everywhere.
All that article proves is that live-service = most played. Which that way by design with all the seasons, updates etc. This extends to all platforms, not just Sony. Very few gamers are going to put hours into single player games like they would into a live service game.

Look at Xbox if you need to see what happens when there aren't any/many exclusives available on a specific console. That's the exodus I'm referring to.

They already did. They totally killed handheld “exclusives” for switch to exist

And the switch itself will have no actual “exclusive” games.

All switch games are available on wii u or switch 2.

Nintendo doesn’t have to deal with other consoles or pc YET, but it’s clear their business strategy is changing to be more inclusive just like everyone else

This was only a thing because at the time the conventional wisdom was that a piece of hardware only deserved to exist if it had games that could EXCLUSIVELY be played on said hardware.

Not even 5 years later this has been broken all the way down to “it might not come to other consoles later”

Crazy :wow:

Sony (Hiroki Totoki) even specifically said during an investor conference call that despite there being pushback to the PSN login on pc that they will continue to do it even if it loses sales. If a company like Sony were desperate for PC sales, why would they put up so many roadblocks to people buying their games on there?

to SIE at the moment the data collection is far more important than the additional sales on pc. God of War Ragnarok sold 15 million copies at full price on PS before it went to pc, their sales on steam are peanuts outside of Helldivers 2.

Quote this post when Switch 2 is announced and we get all the reactions to the idea that nintendo is launching a console with ZERO exclusive games.

I won’t even say “i told you so”
No need, you’re the only one arguing this point. You even admitted the video didn’t bring this up.

The gaming industry has never defined “console exclusive” as one specific platform and you know that.
The Last of Us is on PS3, PS4, and PS5, and it is a PlayStation console exclusive.

This is a damn lie.

Having games Exclusive to a new piece of hardware was such a big deal just a few years ago that sony came out and publicly LIED about their software plans.

There’s always been remasters. There’s NEVER been a new piece of nintendo hardware to release with ZERO exclusive games.

Day one hype gets people to buy Consoles. We literally watched NCAA move MILLIONS of consoles earlier this year. It was the best selling game of the year on consoles.

Spiderman moved consoles for PS. You talk about costing sales of a game, they're thinking abut sales of consoles.

Why go into the business of selling tires, when you can sell the whole car.
If what yall said bared fruit the most popular games on PlayStation would be PlayStation exclusives. That's not the case at all. The most popular games played on PlayStation are games available on other platforms. People playing those games on a console are doing so because that's their preferred way to play.

Any company selling something to consumers wants those consumers making impulsive purchases. The greatest way to do that is make the product widely available day 1 and when the release happens you maximize a wide audience. Once people escape that initial hype cycle it's much easier to wait going forward. The longer they wait the more money it cost you if your business model involves lowering prices over time.

My anticipation is they'll start with smaller games and as it proves itself to be fine the bigger titles will come. The PC isn't a threat to PlayStation at all.
