Yall talk about selling PlayStation consoles like it's the objective. The real one .is to sell consoles to then sell software on them.
I would argue that someone buying a PlayStation console only to play Sony games day 1 and wouldn't if they were on PC then doesn't primarily game on that console to begin with. All they likely do is buy PlayStation exclusives on it. If you let them leave your ecosystem you lost almost nothing. Hell if you meet them on their preferred platform you might transition them into a more profitable customer that buys day 1 games at the highest price there instead of waiting a year or two for them for be $30 or less.
When PlayStation vanquished Xbox the math on all this changed. We've seen it for generations the high end home console market tops out at about 180 million give or take. In the pursuit of more customers Sony will end up meeting them where they are as they tap out the high end home console market they'll have to search elsewhere for more customers.

Selling consoles is the objective.
If everything was day and date on PC they'd lose out on console sales. Yea you get 70, but lose 400 plus any potential any accessory sale (controllers, etc), additional games sales made through the first party storefront (30% cut or whatever), and any subscriptions folks generally sign up for when buying a console.
I'm not arguing the console market is down/stagnant, but 50+ million consoles sold is still 50+ million consoles sold. Until that number comes way down, exclusives are still going to be around.

and the console is one of the best ways they do that for Sony. The old PC port for a few million to make extra profits later doesn't hurt them.
The "I only buy Playstation to play exclusives" customer is just an oversimplification. Most gamers who are on consoles buy everything there since that's what they play on. The enthusiast online talking like that is not every gamer. Most gamers will be buying the Spider-Mans, Madden, COD, as well as ND games and GTA VI on Playstation. Most gamers are not forum posters. Until you see a generation where Sony sold less than 20 million Playstations 4-5 years into the generation, exclusive games are not going to be a thing of the past.
