What I don't get is that the confederate flag is the flag of traitors. It was worn by insurgents that fought against America. It's a flag that represents everything that America should be against. That was the flag of citizens that defected and that chose to not be a part of this project called United States. And after they lost the war, we as a nation allowed those states back in, because we are a great nation. We allowed those states that fought against what we stand for back into our nation, and to rock that flag in any capacity is an insult to every single American.

I don't get how someone in one breath can say "Hey, we have to learn from our mistakes" and then in the next say "This is just a part of our history."

Yeah, it's a part of our history, and a very bad part.

The rebel flag to the American flag is no different than what the nazi flag is to the German flag.

If it's about racism and slavery we should burn both flags.

Both flew over dead black bodies. Lincoln didn't free the slaves out of the goodness of his heart, he used the issue as a bargaining chip and as an excuse to declare martial law and suspend habeas corpus. Aside from racism being in the background of EVERYTHING in regards to American history, confederates rep that flag partly as an anti-government statement. We (or at least some of us) in Hip Hop shyt on the government all day. The cops, the prison system, the politicians...we talk shyt about COINTELPRO and the big bad 'illuminati'...we just don't have a flag that embodies those sentiments.

But like you said...you can be obtuse if you want and just claim it's about anti-government. Just like you can point to the Swastika's origin as a symbol of peace or different periods where it meant different things to different people. Just don't be surprised when people react to you negatively.
