Jay never actually competes. He hides behind the glasses because it equates to intelligence and gives him a non confrontational vibe. If you notice this is why your Chris Martin's and Miley Cyrus type of people(basically White folks) are not afraid of him.
He creates this safe aura around himself where he puts other people in front of himself instead of handling these issues himself, like with Jada and Beanie instead of actually actively competing.
Even worse he will analyze other people and their actions and not actually look at or focus on himself and the transitions he is making in his music.
