Technically you’d have to argue who’s better because very few are. He is in the class of Black Thought and Nas and such. His songs tend to sound the same. If he were back wit Ra and Kane he would be a god but nowadays I hate to it but he is kinda boring. Benny is nice but now you heard one Butcher song you heard em all. I was a bartender and you can make the flyest drinks but the most popular ones have the flair. Elzhi lacks bartender’s flair.

Another thing. He is better lyrically than his buddy Skyzoo but the way Sky puts projects together and his output leaves Elzhi in the dust. All his albums are dope but also so are all of his EPs and mixtapes. If you replace Sky on those with Elzhi maybe he’d be bigger, he isn’t as slick as Skyzoo on tracks like this though. No pun but Elzhi is like the little brother that is cool with never wanting to be a big bro.

I've always felt like his song sounds kinda out of place on "Welcome to Detroit". Dilla gave him some greatness but he didn't adjust his flow to it.

Fun fact: Elzhi said Dilla just gave him the drum break to rap to and then Dilla built the rest of the beat after he left the studio.

Makes the song even greater in my opinion because it shows both of their genius :manny:

Thanks for providing clarity on this. See now it all makes sense as to why I personally feel it sounds off. I held Elzhi at fault to some degree, so I was wrong on that.

kendrick is a way better artist than elzhi

kendrick has a GKMC, something elzhi could never make

shyt kendricks latest LP >>> elzhis latest,

rich spirit, die hard>>>> the latest elzhis track

im not even a big kendrick fan, but putting elzhi and kendrick in the same sentence? nah you out of your mind.

Elzhi is my contemporary.

Yet him and kendrick are nostalgia nineties biters.

Who just take ol material and change the words that rhyme.

They are both the same styke of artist. Except kendrick gw for weezy to earn a higher pr footprint from a label.

Real talk. Eminem had to switch up from biting nas like what elzhi is on.

Plus kendrick is basically a bite of every nineties styles war artist and eminem combined.

They are the same type of artist.

One just has larger resources and utilizes aftermath interscope neo soul direction to his benefit. Whereas elzhi no longer has the more original jd.
or dilla sonic landscapes to rhyme over.

Doesn’t have a killers mentality musically. If he were still part of a group would be better. He has not had the best output unlike Skyzoo for instance. He should be dropping at least as frequently as Black Thought currently is. Only 2 projects in past 3 years unacceptable. No singles, no EP’s. kinda odd.

Everything he dropped is top notch quality though which can't be said for cats like Skyzoo that would benefit more by dialing back a bit. Lyrically yes but musically Thought hasn't exactly been killing shyt solo wise.

You can’t really call a rendition of a classic album a classic album lol

That just cheapens the whole meaning
Is Luther Vandross - A House Is Not a Home

Not a classic? And that song is a full fledged cover at that.

You would have a point if El just re-rapped the same lyrics and used the same beats.:camby:
