Kendrick is not on Elzhi's level as a pure rapper. Elzhi is in the elite of the elite. I don't care if I get flamed for this take.

He doesn't have a defining album though and that hurts his standing. I'd compare him to an underground Ludacris as in everyone recognizes the godly ability but he isn't viewed as an overall artist the same as the other top dogs.
You’re right, K Dot isn’t even close to Elzhi as a spitter

What he’s saying is Kendrick’s musical diversity & range makes him superior to Elzhi as an artist

So when it comes to debating the hierarchy people are just gonna say Kendrick is superior

He's incredible lyrically but maybe not so musically in tune. If we turn the BPM down to 75 and we put him in on a record with Benny, Ransom, Royce, Spesh, RJ Payne, Guilty, etc what is the chance of him having a standout verse?

I've always felt like his song sounds kinda out of place on "Welcome to Detroit". Dilla gave him some greatness but he didn't adjust his flow to it.

Also he didn't have the hottest verse on "Selfish". Having a quotable on that record would have helped his career but his verse was all wordplay and no personality. Kanye smoked it and T3 tailored his flow so that you can enjoy the groove.
Very high, he better than all them nikkas don’t get it twisted

I think him not being musically inclined is a bit overblown, perhaps just not diverse enough. I hear what you saying tho cuz you make valid points

He’s displayed some of the most intriguing conceptual pieces I’ve heard in the genre with flashes of brilliant songwriting. musically he can be a bit stale, he really suffers from the J Cole effect

:what:
Elzhi had the hardest song and verse on that whole album

Nah that might be the craziest beat on there but I think he's rhyming too fast for that groove. Elmatic era Elzhi wouldn't have come at that beat so aggressively.

I think that type of aggressive flow worked better on Checkmate, the beat is basically chops where "Come and Get It" is a groove. Let the beat breathe.

Are we being realistic here? What would have happened if someone like Busta Rhymes did a song to "Come and Get It"? It's a radio friendly beat, but Elzhi just wanted to get his bars off.

This discussion isn't about whether Elzhi is nice or not. It's why he isn't always mentioned immediately when we mention great lyricists. Royce had an underwhelming first half of his career, but he forced his way into the convo with the Bar Exam series.

When I listen to a song like this it sticks out how comfortable Royce sounds. It makes his verse automatically more appealing. These are some of the nicest mcees on earth but Royce is a little more advanced in his delivery

This is fair but I felt like he made it his own. On top of that, he had the audacity to touch that album and did it justice. Who else could have done that?

No. He didnt do it justice, because its not as good as Illmatic. Thats why he should've left it alone lol.

He's boring. His verses were always my favourite during his Slum Village days but his music never had mainstream appeal since he didnt have anything to set him apart from the rest of the talented underground dudes. Could also have to do with maybe not having a strong team yo promote his brand (since Talib Kweli was able to have some success but way more boring than Elzhi).

That said, this still gets burn from me off his verse alone

You talking about the same Royce who self-admittedly was ducking a battle with Elzhi in 1996 at the Hip Hop Shop on 7 & Forrer?
:mjlol: yeah ok
Yup. Same Royce that lost a freestyle battle to Mistah Fab and got dusted on wax by Mickey Factz. He is still more advanced in his delivery over beats. He's admitted his admiration for Elzhi before, so it's not like Royce is fronting. As a big fan of both I think Royce's delivery is better.

cool hes a better pure rapper, guess what tho, this is about the music and overall ability as a rap artist

which elzhi is not on kendricks level. thus putting the two together is dumb af.
