Look at Drink Champs. Noreaga is easily one of the most unqualified human beings on earth to conduct an interview with anyone and yet he gets the best guests in hip hop and never seems to do the interviews justice. He's not knowledgable enough to ask the right questions, he's too ignorant to understand certain things and he ruins conversations by cutting off guests and making inappropriate comments.

When I watch Nore or Cam & Mase, I feel like we're only getting surface level interviews that appeal to people on a 8th grade reading level as opposed to deep and insightful adult conversations.

Ultimately the listener suffers from the lack of qualified journalists in the space.

All facts. I was saying this same shyt to my boy last night when we was talking bout this. I’m like this nikka Elliott Wilson never wrote a bar in his life yet feels he can criticize hip hop. Cam and Mase do what they do cause they have a background in it and they give a different perspective. Them nikkas funny and they have a space. The whole ESPN is compromised and only focuses on LeBron and are dishonest af. nikkas tired of that shyt. Where’s the “real journalism” when a lot of the sportscasters are employed by Clutch Sports and just say a bunch of wild shyt? Even Rory and Mal said “what about when Charles Barkley etc etc become media..” he said that’s a natural progression. So it’s cool for them to do it but it’s a problem when a hip hop artists does it in their own craft and space? fukk outta here.

I’ll listen to some of these pods and they’ll try to talk about stories without having done zero research.. even a single google search. They’ll literally be trying to guess and remember shyt mid convo on the pod and that shyt be pissing me off. At least Cam and Mase hired Stat Baby. They were very smart to do that. Rory is trying to legitimize all these folks but good luck to you if the entire world shifts to podcasters over journalists. People be out here not knowing bad weather is coming through because they don’t watch the news, meanwhile thru know all the podcast hot topics. shyt crazy out here

Unpopular opinion maybe...but I've grown to not really care for interviews at all as they're mostly fodder for promo. It was always a means to earn some extra capital. Put it in the art if it's important to you.

Cam and Mase - like most podcasters - just provide entertainment. If you actually think their “background” as rappers is why people listen to them then I don’t know what to tell you. Generally speaking, podcasters get good guests but don’t ask any real questions or can’t pushback on lies. They have a lane because they talk like regular people on the street and they’re easily digestible. But they provide as much propaganda as mainstream orgs that may be compromised - but they just do it from a place of ignorance. And it’s worse because people like them personally so they don’t pushback or criticize them. I say this as someone who watches their show. Elliot is just butthurt but he’s not entirely wrong.

Elliot would have a point if journalism in general was still strong in the media. But it isn't it's a bunch of glazing and being promotion for artists. Think of XXL, they played favorites and didn't push back against artists when they said sideways shyt. So the journalism field left the door open for people more entertaining then their dry voices to come thru and take their spot.
