Sounds like he's mad he's not able to gatekeep anymore. He doesn't have a monopoly on interviews with artists etc. He's obsolete.

Technology means you don't need gatekeepers anymore in a lot of industries. Everyone can create content...the downside is a lot of garbage is out there as there is no quality control. But at the same time there are a lot of opportunities and ppl can create a lane for themselves. The space is a lot more diverse.

Elliot Wilson wants to go back to the days of artificial barriers where he can lob softball questions at roc nation artists and glaze Jay Z.

Because a lot of these podcasters and streamers claim to be journalist but have zero journalistic integrity. They present half truths as facts and don't even try to hide their biases. They're not capable of being objective at all with topics. It would be better if they made it clear to the public that they are not journalist, but instead media personalities. Journalism implies credibility and integrity, the vast majority of these podcasters and streamers have neither.

That's basically journalism in a nutshell in 2024.

Honestly, I don't consider Elliott Wilson a journalist either for the reasons you outlined. Even when XXL was a thing, I didn't find him credible. There was a huge gap between The Source and XXL and that was the quality journalism.

For me quality journalism is when it is obvious that the subject is well researched, and the story told based on the research basically tells itself. There's little to no embellishing or hyperbole. The purpose is clear (whether the journalist is entertaining, informing, educating, etc)

Im actually confused there’s any confusion. If they were normal podcast hosts sure they’re likely not journalists, but Cam and Mase purposely mimic broadcast sports shows and have the exact same format, just more talking and no politicaly correct speaking. What’s the difference between what they do and the old ‘The Sports reporters’ Yall exposing yourself for even questioning it
