I doubt anyone personally reached out to Ebro but he probably heard some variation of this and passed it off as first hand knowledge.

And it's not surprising. We're 3/4 through the year and no rap has hit #1. At some point people need to examine why that is.

Fred.

No rap album? That simply isn't true. If you mean song then the only genres that are "thriving" are pop and country.

Song.

And even if we're talking about albums, it took 7 months of 2023 for one rap album to hit #1....compared to 2022 when there was 6 #1 albums and 2 #1 songs by June. That's not normal, at all.

Rap is and has been pop for 20+ years at this point. Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice were just on the "Barbie" soundtrack, which did $1.2 billion.

Nothing is sticking.

True but this is also deceptive since besides Lil Baby no major name released an album that would have a chance at #1 during those 7 months.

I mean, that's an issue in and of itself. By the same time last year there would've been multiple rap albums in the same time span.

None of this is indicative of rap music currently doing well.

You used a quantity issue as proof of a quality issue. Both could be true but that stat you posted simply wasn't convincing.

Uh....no I didn't. I'm not sure who you have me confused with but I said people need to discuss why. Never gave my opinion on why either way.

And I'm not sure how the stat isn't convincing....when it's the stat. It's like saying 2+2 = 4 isn't convincing. What does that even mean?

We went 7 months with no rap albums at #1, and are currently damn near 9 months with no #1 rap song. Who needs to be convinced, and what am I convincing them of? The numbers speak for themselves.

:pachaha:

you did it again but if you think that logic works then by all means. BTW the Billboard report you are citing also stated rap consumption is up and outpacing other genres.

That isn't something to brag about in the context of this conversation.

All that consumption but no #1's means people are checking the music out but again....there is no impact. There's just a bunch of disparate fan bases listening to a bunch of shyt but none of them have enough juice to go #1.

It means people are listening and as I said only country and pop have went #1 so in the context of this very thread none of the 3 genres would be having impact....which we know isn't true.

But younger heads never thumbed their noise at Anthony Santos or Juan Luis Guerra if it came on. Aventura reassured us all that there was youth making new bachata.

Where Romeo Santos excels is that he always works with O.G.'s which is why three+ generations of women attend his shows. It would be like if Drake's first single off his new album featured Chuck D

Sounds like you're agreeing with me, no? :lupe:

For the first bolded part about young heads; I really only see this shyt online. I've got kids, nephews, some young cousins. They be feeling that oldschool shyt I play around them :manny:

Even when I was in high school we were all bumping oldschool and new school shyt. You hit the clubs and it was always blends of oldschool and new school and it never stopped the dance floor.

This whole disdain for older hiphop I've only seen here on the coli in my short time posting.

for the bolded; Drake always payed homage. I was bumping his old shyt the other day can't remember the bar about dilla. tru student of the game :wow:

When they say 'latin' are they talking about that reggaeton crap? That has the same problem as rap music as all the songs sound the same.

to the untrained ear maybe, but they incorporate different genres onto that 1 beat you constantly hear. A lot of cumbia, salsa, bachata, flamenco, rap, pop

I thought it was just some online shyt too until I seen a bunch of kids shyttin on Kool G Rap, not on some "that ain't for me" shyt, but on some "that nikka is trash" shyt. Old school to them is 98-12 now. Anything before that is like tryna convince people to turn up that Little Richard.
