Too $hort don't stop that rap
Now every time I grab the mic
I rock you just like that
8 years ago when I started to rap
I use to sell tapes everywhere
It was me and my homeboy Freddy B, y'all
Kickin' it like big players
Everybody loved my raps like 100 dollar bills ..

I rocked house parties on 98th
Even rocked in the 6-9 vill
Might find me on the mic at Hot Lips house
Or at the Eastbay Dragon spot
All the 85th boys with their hand in the air
Screamin' Too $hort just don't stop! ..

Like Royal Park, like Plymouth Rock
First street and Sunnyside
Like Sobrante Park and Brookefield
East Oakland, yeah, that's right ..

Benzes roll .. Beemers jet ..
And Caddies keep on dippin'
You keep on talkin' all that crap ..

Too $hort has always been a mainy looking MF to me. To this day I still wonder if he was really getting p*ssy like that.

" On my way to the Town to get a doja joint
Pushed it to the 7 to get some dank
Hit the liquor store to cold get drank
Now I got my doja, my drink is like Nitro
Peace, playboy, I'm on my way to the side show
Down Bancroft, to the light
Let me warm it up, I hit a donut tight
There's a Chevy on my side, windows straight tinted
I think he got hype when he saw me spin it
I'm up outta there, sideways to the next light
Vogues kinda smokin but Zeniths still tight "

In other words, the side show's on
Troy's in a 5-point straight up lit
Short's comin through in a Benz with a kit
Oakland's movin somethin, and that's real
Bruce from the Deuce comin through in a 'Ville
This is a side show, boy, we don't fake it
Police come through on a fluke and try to break it
Up like that with a riot hat
You're gonna need more than a billy club and a gat
To stop the side show, officer, just think
Maybe you should come and hit the spot with a tank .. "

" Cause the brothers from the O are gonna keep on ridin
Yolkin’, hittin’ tight ones, straight sidin’

Now listen, this is the code to the show
For the people out there who just don't know .."

If it's high-performance, then swing it

Then peace, you did it at the side show "

The Bay Area isn't top 10 travel destination breh ?? :mjlol:

If you're lumping South Central with all of LA .. You have to lump Oakland together with the whole Bay Area including San Francisco and its Black culture also ..

Vallejo and Berkeley has a lot too . Along with San Jose .:yeshrug:

You missed my whole point, family...

Doesn't the bold make sense though? You said "LA is the black capital of the west" but then specified South Central, finally saying that people mistakenly compare LA to Oakland. So is LA the capital or is South Central? You are making a clear distinction between the two... which also means you need to make a clear distinction between their merit and history.

Just so I am clear, you are comparing Oakland to South Central? And you are using mostly (if not solely) total residents and/or the percentage of black residents as your basis?

I also left the other lines in there because as far as I understand, South Central is predominantly Hispanic.

I have many questions about your post but lets just start there and get clarification. I'm not interested in debate though because I don't know or even really care what is deemed as the black capital of the west. But I am interested in understanding your stance a bit better.

So do you want to talk about it or not? You said in a subsequent post you don't want to argue opinions, but I'm not arguing opinions. Since you engaged, I'll reply and I'm open to commenting on this further...

I'll try to clarify this as simply as I can...

•LA has 4 million people in the city. Oakland has 430,000 people in the city. Not only is LA 10x larger than Oakland, LA city by itself has approximately half the population as the entire Bay Area...

LA City covers 470 square miles of land. Oakland City covers 56 square miles of land. That means LA covers over 8x the geography of Oakland...

In what narrow prism are we saying "Oakland" and "Los Angeles" in the same breath and comparing them as equals? Any conversation surrounding demographics, in this case the black demographics of both cities, has to take into account that you are comparing one city with multiple times the population that spreads over multiple times the land area...

•the city of Oakland is ~56 square miles of land. South Central Los Angeles is ~51 square miles of land. Thus, it makes complete sense to compare South LA and Oakland based on geography alone, rather than comparing Oakland to the entirety of Los Angeles...

Another reason it makes sense to compare South Central to Oakland is that they both serve the same function for the rest of their areas, both historically and now. Black people live in other parts of The Bay but frankly, Oakland is the cultural heartbeat of not only black Bay culture, but black NorCal culture. Black people live in other parts of the Greater LA basin, but South LA is the cultural heartbeat of not just LA, but SoCal and frankly far beyond...

•So with nearly identical land areas within 10% of each other, Oakland has a population of ~430k and is ~23% black. South Central has a population of ~805k and is ~28% black. That discrepancy means, the blackest area of Los Angeles is not only blacker as a percentage of the population, but has a real volume of about ~130k more black people packed into essentially the same geographic area as the entire city of Oakland (actually, slightly lesser)...

•culture doesnt typically stop at borders, so Black Oakland bleeds into peripheral cities with notable black populations such from Emeryville to San Leandro to Richmond to Vallejo. Black LA doesn't stop at South Central, notwithstanding there are other parts of LA City with decent black populations, you have peripheral cities surrounding South Central from Long Beach to Compton to Inglewood to Gardena that not only have blacker populations than peripheral Oakland cities TODAY, they've ALWAYS been blacker than the peripheral cities up north...

........

So, Oakland can't win a statistic based argument with LA, and Oakland today only has one majority black (50%+) neighborhood left, while South Central has eight. You can attempt an argument by saying, "you used the blackest area of LA so compare it to the blackest area of Oakland". Sure...

South LA accounts for ~11% of Los Angeles' total area. You know what ~11% of Oakland's total land area is? It would be ~6 square miles. West Oakland is 5.9 square miles and is ~40% black, but then you're running into a similar problem that breaks down twofold rather easily:

1)you immediately realize fewer than 11,000 black people live in the blackest part of Oakland, which is about 11% of Oakland city total. You'd be trying to make an argument that the blackest ~11% of Oakland is somehow more culturally black than the blackest ~11% of LA that has over 225,000 black people...

2)you could ask for the blackest ~6 sq mile stretch in South Central, thinking that's apples to apples, and then immediately realize the blackest ~6 sq mile stretch would not only be over 60% black, but because South LA is significantly more populated and densely built, you'd be at multiplying the amount of black people by 2-3 times in the same area...

3)you could ask for a South Central slice more similar to Oakland, which we could then offer the Westside of South LA that is ~28 square miles and ~35% black in a population of ~475k----->so again, you'd be arguing that the city with fewer blacks, in a larger land area, with a lower percentage, is somehow more culturally black than the larger one...

It makes absolutely zero sense to compare the entirety of Oakland to the entirety of Los Angeles because of the size discrepancy, and there is no measure in which the numbers break down and can be distorted to favor Oakland. Since that isnt possible statistically, you have to resort to measuring blackness in terms of culture and influence...

Slow Bay Areans have this weird impression that nonblacks haven't been influenced or impacted by blacks in LA, which makes no sense. And if you're measuring culture in aesthetics since statistics don't favor Oakland, what is one area in which Black Oakland has outperformed Black South Central? In the history of ever?

And since Oakland is too small, you can compare the entirety of The Bay to either LA city or LA County or LA metro, and where had the Black Bay ever been more culturally relevant in anything than Black LA? One thing? In what era of history and in what medium or discipline?

People are entitled to their own opinions, but they aren't entitled to their own facts. One can say they think Oakland, the blackest area in its region is blacker than LA, but the reality is if you're in any cutout of in the blackest areas of LA that is equivalent in size any Oakland example, not only are you seeing more black people in LA as a percentage, you're seeing tremendously more black people in LA in real number...

LA is a major city. Most tourists to LA aren't going to The City to hang out in the blackest area (South Central), whereas if you go to specifically Oakland, you know you in "the black part" of The Bay. LA suffers from a perception problem more than anything; South Central is predominately Hispanic and is still significantly blacker than Oakland. Oakland isnt predominately Hispanic but Hispanics outnumber blacks and that Hispanic population is growing year over year while Oakland is losing blacks at some of the highest rates in the nation, rates LA saw in the 90s and 00s...

I have a pet peeve for Black California, you can probably tell I'm passionate about this subject. I get tired of the misconceptions about LA that run rampant online. And while I don't have any problems with The Bay and enjoy sliding thru, I find it to be one of the more incredibly overrated places in the US. Sacramento>>>>>, and LA it's not even a question to be asked...

Ahh OK, I see it is just about population. I was curious to see if demographic and geographic stats were the bread and butter of your stance or if you were going to delve into history, culture and influence. I had an interest in the latter if it would bring a compelling exchange, with you providing your perspective on those items through SoCal eyes.

Its all perception and opinion anyway. Agreeing upon an arbitrary black capital is just a past time, it has no real merit. Which is why I said and will say again, I won't debate it. Seems there is a chance you may be passionate enough to forget that part. :pachaha:
