Think Knxwledge and Earl could make something way better:

This is a loop but with a lot more going on musically.

The one criticism I have of Alchemist is the lazy loops but the rapper chooses what he wants to write to so it's more on Earl. Al would give him whatever he asks for.

This. And we've literally only heard one track. I'm going to assume every track isn't a drumless loop

Why is he rapping like this?:why:

Earl had energy and clarity. Now he sounds monotone and drunk. He needs to get back to sounding like this:

Every now and then he'll drop a random song like Danity Kane where he doesn't sound like he just smoked a quarter and went in the booth. Wish he'd do a whole album sober.

Alchemist needed to get him on some actual beats and not these minimalist loops.

imo, he dove into this style heavy when he started running with MIKE and Hommy. they were already experimenting with that monotone, run-on/run-into bar structure, and earl (whose style was already trending towards less technical/eminem-inspired) started really leaning into it as well over time.

it's like they were all trying to see how far they could push past traditional notions of bar structure and rhyme patterns, while still trying to find something dope and unique in the style. i feel like all MC's do this, to an extent. but imo, MIKE, Hommy, Earl and others in that circle started to prioritize experimentation over structure, cadence and other technical confines. i didn't always love the style on Earl, but regardless of the results, i appreciated the effort.

as i read a little about his background, i also thought it made sense that he would be the member of OF to explore and challenge the confines of being a dope MC. regardless of how people felt about it.

I agree with this too and I respect the effort too. I also remember a point earlier, maybe approaching the mid 2010's where Earl reminded me a lot of DOOM with some of his flows and cadences and wordplay. I think that was my favorite era of his raps.

I get this, but agree that it's mostly on the emcee. The shyt he does with guys like Boldy James or Benny or even Conway is often real layered with a lot of drums and subdued chops. He has a lot more joints with Boldy with drums than no drums, but a lot of those drumless ones they have together have some intricate chops on them like Photographic Memories and Ill Advised. They might sound like loops but there's a lot going on with the sampling techniques.

Al definitely does some lazy looping on This Thing of Ours series, and on that new Flying High (which seems to be a continuation of it) a lot of the joints sound like loose ideas that weren't finished.

I do hope Earl chose some beats with drums on this or some more intricate sample choices. E. Coli is a great example of an Earl and Alc joint that is a really tricky beat with 5 chops.

This sounds awful. Like amateur hour bad

Lol someone still mad over the Alchemist/Hitboy debate.

Anyhow I haven't even heard the snippet but I remember last year when Alc and Roc Marci dropped Deja Vu and everybody thought it was mid, only for the album to be some of the best work either artist has done.

Very true. I still hate Deja Vu to this day. I skip it every time I play that album, but overal that album was crazy dope.

Don't care if it's chopped I didn't like E Coli :yeshrug:

I'm not talking about the method but the end result. I have no problem with drumless loops as long as the end result isn't too sparse or dreary.

The single feels like an interlude. If it fits in context within the album that's one thing but releasing it on it's own doesn't make sense.

I like Deja Vu but it's arguably the worse track on the album, and doesn't really represent the album like @Funcrusher said. Not the first time that's happened with the single from an Alch project recently.

I got zero doubts and if anything the Marci album makes me more excited. Just like that album, I've had an idea of what an Earl/Alch album would sound like for years but...whatever we get on Friday won't be that. It'll be something wilder, and I'm here for it.
