You can be whatever gender, I named yo as Zion and that's what you are gonna be to me .

I don't judge or attack transgender people. I have no problem admitting I don't get it. But if you want me to call you "he or she" I will show you that respect. However, the one thing that I don't get is that we have been told for years that gender is a societal construct. Boys and girls don't naturally have certain preferences and leanings, they learn from society. If that is the case how can a person be transgender? How does a certain way of walking or talking or dressing or even a name define a particular gender? Some women wear baggy clothes and play sports. Some guys wear tight shyt and sashay (need a Prince GIF). This kinda goes along with the gay thing too. Liking guys is one thing. Making your voice higher than it really is and doing all that "queen" shyt really has nothing to do your preference, does it? Can someone that is more knowledgeable break this down for me?

Damnnn!!!

there's some dumbasses in here who keep saying that no one is seeing the difference between sex and gender. this is the defense used by so many who see nothing misleading or wrong about transgenderism. if genitalia or birth sex does not determine one's desired gender, or if gender expression (in the way someone dresses, does their hair, or behaves), then why do transgendered women/men change not just their outward physical appearance but also seek gender "reassignment" surgery or hormones. Why do they feel the need to change their physical characteristics/parts/genitalia despite claiming that behaviors or genitalia do not determine if someone is man/male or woman/female? if being a male or a female or being called he/him or she/her isn't defined by having a penis/balls or vagina/ovaries, then why not keep your original parts? it's all a bunch of mumbo jumbo pseudoscience and counter-intuitive hypocrisy. if you claim to be a woman/female although born male, then don't go chopping of your dikk to make some fake boy p*ssy or taking estrogen/anti-testosterone supplements. if you claim to be man/male although born female, then don't go looking to get an everted p*ssy/fake male member or take testosterone. DELUSIONAL MENTAL ILLNESS NONSENSE.

I wonder how his real mother feels about this. A 12 year old shouldn't be supported in this decision or idea. When you're a legal adult, you can do what the hell you want.
What difference does waiting until he's 18 make if he's gay as all hell at 12?

There's a huge difference between gay and transgender. Gay is attracted to the same sex. Transgender is transitioning or preferring to be known as the opposite gender.

MY FATHER DIDNT GROOM ME THAT WAY, SO I CANT TELL U WHAT WOULDA BEEN

Interesting answer. It’s a definite no for me.

I think the best voices on this topic would be people who would have considered or pursued gender reassignment surgery as a youth (if it had been available) but are now living as cisgender adults who are glad they never changed. I wasn’t sure if many people fit into that category. but perhaps you do.

YOU CANT BE DEFINITIVE IF U WERENT PLACED UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES

CHILDHOOD TRAUMA HAS A MUCH STRONGER EFFECT THAN U REALIZE

YOU AND I DIDNT GO THROUGH THAT SO WE DONT KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE

IF YOUR MOTHER RAISED YOU CONVINCING YOU THAT YOU WERE PART VAMPIRE, YOU WOULD MOST LIKELY BELIEVE HER.. EVEN AT THE AGE OF 12. IF THATS WHAT U WERE TAUGHT THEN IT WOULD BE ALL U KNOW....

NOW OF COURSE EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT, BUT BECAUSE WE WERENT RAISED THAT WAY THEN WE CANT SAY HOW IT WOULD HAVE AFFECTED US PSYCHOLOGICALLY.

Yes because in the real world child are allowed to make major decisions
No my guy, because what Wade does with his family is his and his family’s business.

And if we really break it down, has Wade’s kid decided to do sexual reassignment surgery? If not, then your argument about children making decisions holds no weight.

Next, y’all always in here talking bout chatty patty this and that and well this thread is one of the longest on the first page and has absolutely nothing to do with the playing of sports or a sports organization.

On top of that, Wade probably wagers that he would be doing more damage to his kid by resisting their gender identity rather than accepting it. Trans folks have very high incidences of suicide and depression not because they’re different but because of how people treat them, including their biological families.

Finally, I work with many many trans people, white and black and in between, and the majority of opinions on this forum and in this thread are clearly very misinformed. And that’s not a diss or a criticism (I was very misinformed before I started working with the population). It’s just how it is. I hope that some of y’all can at least do some research on the subject or spend some time around queer folks before forming ur opinion, because even if that opinion doesn’t change, at least it’ll be informed.

Now I expect a bunch of backlash from people who already have their opinions formed and ain’t looking for a conversation so this is likely my last post on the subject in this thread.

As for it being all new, are you talking about for our society or throughout history?
Modern society accepting this as normal behavior.

Being gay, is one thing. Claiming to be something that is against your biology? "I'm a heterosexual woman in a man's body? Or I'm a gay woman"......this is new in the grand scheme of modern times. Social constructs or not, this kind of thing was not out on the open. in this world of social media influenced egomaniacs, you cant with a straight face say some of these T kids won't claim their parents did this for attention.

What happen with telling kids love yourself. To now becoming, If you dont? Change it. This is a slippery slope with the potential for long term repercussions.

Sometimes its a mental illness. it’s called body dysmorphia but since trans people are bulletproof we have to dance around that possibility because you can’t question anything about it.
Body dysmorphia is something different (people with anorexia often experience this).

What you’re talking about is gender dysphoria (or what used to be called gender identity disorder), which is largely debated in psychology circles.
