Once again, I'm gonna need someone to explain to me how gender is more or a social construct than race.
Also someone needs to explain to me the difference between a gender and gender roles and gender and sex.
Sex refers to biology. Male, Female. Chromosomes, Hormones, etc. But even biology gets wonky. A women who cannot bear children (which is primarily a female trait) is no less a woman than another woman who is extremely fertile. No?
Gender and Gender roles are more mutable. Man and Woman. Men traditionally being the breadwinner, women raising the children for example. In court cases, women are favored more so than men, especially in terms of custody. Does this NEED to be the case? No, it's arbitrary. Society has conditioned us to believe women are always the superior caretakers, when really it should be circumstantial and case-by-case.
There are peoples out there that traditionally have three or more genders.
In a similar way Race is a social construct, to an extent we created it ourselves. It can be very arbitrary.
The equivalent to the above example I suppose would be that instead of referring to people as Black, White, Japanese, Hawaiian (The social construct being race), we refer to them as Homo Sapiens (The biological reality being species). This is not generally the norm. We don't refer to people by their biological species. We refer to them by some construct racial to ethnic to nationality. Black man, Igbo and American are all social constructs we created to identify (and sadly discriminate) peoples.
To me, visually at least, Ashkenazi Jews and other Europeans are basically the same thing, but we've had shyt like the Holocaust et al. The Ancient Romans thought Germanic and Nordic peoples were of a different race and 'swarthy'. Benjamin Franklin thought Germanic peoples were 'swarthy'. In turn, they consider Turks and Mediterraneans 'swarthy'. There used to be a division among Ango-Saxon, Germanic, Iberian, Nordic, etc. Race is very much arbitrary. To me, they're all fukking white people. Mixed people like Obama are considered to be Black, Obama is called a Black Man. Dude came out a White Woman's vagina.
Thus something like race is a social construct. Unless you consider black people, white people, asian people, etc to all be different species. Which makes no sense, because then where does the line end? By this logic you could say that an (ethnic) Englishman is of a completely different race to an (ethnic) Scotsman and you could distill this logic to every difference imaginable. North vs South, Brown eyes vs Green eyes, Height, dikk length, Breast Size, etc.
Nevertheless, I'm aware of these things and support these people generally but 12 is far too young, it's indicative of the parents pushing this to an extent and I think that is disgusting.
