sorry for not making a post on that mala show, me and my mate have been putting together this grime mix for the past half a year stockpiling records and have really been trying to get it done this past month so i've been constantly listening to grime so I just haven't even thought about this thread
funnily enough, me and my mate ended up buying 15 dubplates from whenever the fukk they were made (def pre-2005 though) that had loads of tracks on them that we didn't even know existed (and my mate is encyclopedic when it comes to grime). These dubplates are 1 for 1 and we actually beat out mad dj's like spooky to get them so I have tracks in my possession that maybe only a couple people have ever heard...anyway
yeah so that mala show....I'm still shaky on the album (its near borefest to me which makes me
cos you lot know how much I stan mala) but in the context of a huge rig and the sounds being played live
....the show was incredible. The female singer whoever she is is
status (she's the singer on the album bt
i refuse to learn her name). She is sexy as fukk, 110% cuban and can't speak a lick of english. She was struggling to say thankyou, but my days can that woman sing...and she was sliding up and down the mic so you know she a freak...anyway, yeah so I was an hour late from the time I planned to get there cos google maps fukked me over and I was out in way down south london looking so bait on the road asking where the club that was hosting the show was. (The further south of london you get, the worse London gets....basically, you should have no parts asking people directions in south london at midnight). I even went down a alley with no lights thinking it might be one of those hidden hole in the wall clubs with my stupid ass
. Turns out it was on brixton high street
(its a huge and famous street) and I get there just as martin von ostwald (can't remember dudes name but mala did the remix to his reconstruct track in 2011) was finishing his set. Gilles peterson jumped on the decks, was thoroughly disapointed and bored during his set. Mala killed it. I left straight after cos I've seen silkie and quest live a million times and I couldn't be bothered to stay up longer and headed yard. The end
Oh and if mala has a live show near you, GO SEE IT (mala and vivek had a fallng out recently over what Im assuming is mala going on tour for the album which meant he basically couldn't co-host 'SYSTEM' (DMZ 2.0) anymore (mala lives in Belguim so it makes everything super long)....which means I won't be going system anymore cos vivek will only get people like youngsta, amit, j:kenzo etc guesting the night with him and I don't want to hear 4+ hours of 'dungeon'
