A lot of my family are Rastas, so them wearing dreads comes from the fact that they believe Jah ordered them not to be bald headed. But also, the reason they're even called "dread locks" instead of just locks/locs is because they're commemorating slaves coming off slave ships and arriving in the Americas with matted unkempt hair. The slave masters referred to them as "dreadful".

Why white people would wear dreads is beyond me, it's disrespectful, and appropriating a culture that was the result of them destroying it in the first place is a joke to me. White people were the reason dreadlocks were created anyway. They make fun of our hair textures, but as soon as we celebrate them, they wanna join in? fukk outta here. :rudy:
To be fair... Nordic Vikings rocked locs :manny:

Had dreads for 6 years til i was forced to cut em

tried doing the short hair thing for about a month but couldn't stand barbershop lines and feeling all types of wind/rain on my head :scusthov:

growin em back now, gotta go through that :flabbynsick: stage of the process again tho :to:

Why'd you have to cut em if you don't mind me asking. Yeah I hated that in between stage and how often I had to have somebody work on them. A few hours every week or they'd look bad.

That's pretty awesome that you've maintained it for 10 years.
Something that's been with you that long...do you think you'll be emotional about it when you have to cut them?

Yeah I think I might be. Locks end up taking a lot of time and money and care. End up being like a pet of sorts. That sounds weird but you do end up caring about them a deal.

it didnt originate anywhere dreads happens becuase when you grow your hair long it tangles into itself nd locks together. look up the history of it poeple all over the ancient world had hair like that.

the rastas in particular took the idea from indian mystics. rastafari are newcomers when it comes to the cuture of locked hair overall
